Just a PSA: if you have the original CXS and love it, maybe buy the replacement motor as you can't change out the brushes apparently. I already swapped mine once after driving, iirc, 300 3" screws into maple haha

While on ekat, I also ordered a set of replacement brushes for the RAS-115. I assume both of these things will become more difficult to get later. That RAS brushes are at least the same as some other active sanders so there's that.

I have replaced to motors on 2 of my CXS’s, I have another that speed 1 grinds. I should tasks it apart and see what it needs.

No way, 300 screws and you needed to replace the motor Paul?

I wouldn't consider that even close to what I'd expect out it's lifetime, that's definitely making me think twice about it now.

So far as obtaining brushes go down the track, there's plenty on Ali and Ebay for pretty much every model possible including the RAS 115: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/264496178598

Oh, no, it did hundreds perhaps thousands more than that. But the weekend when it started acting up, I had driven those 300 screws on a couple sets of stall bars.

For the RAS, the brushes from Festool were just $12. An easy-add to the CSX motor order

Ok that's a relief! It's still on my radar then!

The brushes for the RAS are $90 here.

Just a point of record.

If you look at tools no longer supported, brushes are usually one of the few items still available even decades down the line.

The comment about them not available separately for the CXS is a valid one though.

Stuff you want to "stock on" are the gearings and any /custom/ bearings and bushings, basically the wear items which are impractical to manufacture down the line a decade later. Then the switches. Brushes are a standard component so they are not stocked-up-sold-until-run-out and instead are being continuously manufactured /for tools where they can be replaced/.
