I walked into one of my IT customers who is doing a remodel, and was pleasantly surprised to see this:

First time I've seen the good stuff actually on-site. They were using it to collect the old glue crap that they were sanding off the concrete where they'd ripped up carpet.

It is a great shame that this superb dust extractor seems to be sitting amongst so much mess - it makes it look as though it does not work or has never been switched on.

But back to the point...

It really is nice to turn a corner and find a tradesman or keen DIYer using Festool kit. I was in The Netherlands last year and came across a shop being refitted and they had loads of Festool kit - it was a wet day and I did not have my camera. When I am in our UK trade shops I always have a chat to people and am pleasantly surprised by the number that either have some Festool kit (most common is the TS55) or aspire to get some when they have made a bit more money.

Hi Peter,

I think that's glue and muck, not loose material (when you take a hard look).

I am sure that you are right - still won't make the Festool family album but great to see the tools at work.

Hi Peter

This should hopefully make your day...
All my collection in the "mobile" workshop...don't worry they get every Saturday and Sunday off.
Have a good weekend.

Hi Scott,

Now that is one very impressive (if just a little bit upside down) van full of kit - certainly one (or two) for the album.

Peter

Has anyone besides me wondered if the amperage draw of that floor machine is within the spec of what the vac is rated to handle for Auto Tool usage?  [eek]

Thanks Peter.
If Festool UK ever gets the video competition up and running I think one of my efforts will be the van fit out and all it's quirks and cubby holes.
Best...

Hi Scott, If you have a video already can you start a thread about it - I am sure that you will get a lot of interest here on the FOG. People will want to know what van it is of course.

You need to look at the bare concrete to see what the Festool vac has been dealing with. They're pulling up the glue from the old carpet, and it's a mess. The 36AC is doing a great job!

I am a floor guy.  I have 4 festool vacs as well as many larger DCS's.  On smaller jobs, I use my 22 and 26s to run edgers and buffers, I plus them direct all the time, for many years now, I also use a Laguna seperator for them.  But I've never had a problem at all with the amperage or the dust pull.  Even one time, I left the shop without a large DCS, I put 2- 26s together on a splitter and ran a big 220 volt belt floor sander.  Yes, they kept up and saved the day!!!!!

As mentioned here before, the Festool amperage ratings are EXTREMLY conservative. They have to have an 'official' statement of capabilities, but real-life experience proves time and again that they are WAY more capable than stated. I'm sure you could overload them, but I doubt that it would be easy in 'normal' circumstances.

After seeing this thing work, I'm pretty sure the 36AC will be one of my next purchases. I'm in love again...

. An edger or duckbill sander yes.  My 8" drum sander , hmm, no!!
I will keep it out of the outlet on the vac and run the vac on manual.
I think it's a 1 1/2 HP motor, induction to boot.
Maybe Rick C. could shed some wisdom on safe limits.. [scratch chin]

Edger-yes
220 volt belt machine-no.  You cannot run that through the plug.  Another great option is the universal  receptacle that sears sells.  It allows you to run 3 things that power on whenever you turn the main tool on.  This way your not running the current through a high priced vac. It's 20 bucks at sears, worth it's weight in gold.  I use them at all mitre saw stations, and smaller tools like grinders and drills, I plug in a light and a pro team backpack vacuum.

On that note, if you want your kapex to be 100000% dustless, get yourself a used pro team vac, and hook it to your kapex, these vacs have insane suction and a small hose.  My kapex now does not even throw a piece of dust..  I mean 1000000% dustless.

Oh, I get the 110 versus 220volt, I started out as an electrician's helper working for a guy who had worked for NASA as an electrical engineer. So no worries there.  [smile]
