My Stihl collection is growing a bit too quick, plus I almost walked out of Pittwater Mowers today with a Honda powered Bar HP unit ($~1K seemed like a really good price), maybe next week [wink]

Kev, DC on a chainsaw, eh? If you're talking chainsaw powered sawmill, I'll see about getting a few pics from a buddy. He builds and works on wood processors for the timber industry as well as firewood processors. He's built DC shrouds for a few of the small sawmills.
Handheld chainsaw, can't help ya there. With a decent chainsaw you'd probably be able to connect a vac tube right below the sprocket near the deflector plate. As long as the saw's not bogging down, the chain should throw the cuttings right into it.

Aye, different chains can make a difference on the output. I love a powerful chainsaw with a fresh square grind skiptooth, can get 3-6" long ribbons out of softwoods. Low kickback chain tends to make smaller sawdust, both because there's more teeth closer together and because the bumper links provide a breaking action.
A few years ago I got to see an odd chain prototype. Guy called it round chain, was basically a sharpened U shape with the drive chain between the "arms" of the letter. IMHO, it didn't work very well as far as a general use saw, but there might have been some interest in the carving circles. It made spirals out of the shavings if you were cutting with the grain.
