Guys

It lacquer time and I need your advice.

Based upon my readings lacquer has a dry time of about 30 minutes. My question is this. ---  Do i have to clean the gun between coats. And if not are there any tips that help keep the gun spraying smoothly. In addition, what do i do with the remaining lacquer in the pot while i wait out the dry time.

Thank for all your help.

Jim

As long as the gun is sealed you do not have to clean between coats. Wipe the nozzle down with a rag after each coat.

The dry time is for a properly sprayed coat.

I assume this is not a catalyzed product.

What type of gun/system?

My added $0.02.

I just sprayed poly for the first time with a Fuji Gxpc gun although I flushed the gun between coats which was in days.  The holes in the 1mm air cap I used needed cleaning after every use although the poly drying time was much longer.  Tom's information is always spot on but you might want to at least check your air cap's holes after your first coat.

Guys

Thx for the responses.

I am spraying Rudd precat lacquer. Its all I could get at retail near my home. I live in CA.

I originally bot a hvlp spray gun, but after further reading I realzed my two tank compressor wouldn't keep pace with it. So i bot an air driven hvlp system from Harbor Freight. Then i went to Rockler and bot another fluid container.  It fits!!

After each use I plan on spraying some  lacquer thinner through it. I hoping that sould do it. And i hoping the spray system will do my small kitchen cabinet job

You won't need to do anything between coats except find something to do until the lacquer flashes.  I've left my cup gun sitting while I go to lunch and have never had any problems. Same for air assisted.  If you are using post cat then you better watch the clock.  When that starts to set you better make sure your fun is clean or you will be shopping for a new one :/
