Squeal like a pig... TS55req

I bought one of the saws in the scratch and dent sale. Saw looks great, track appears new. Cuts well.  But...(don't you just hate that word).

When I start it up it squeels like it has a dry or bad bearing, then when it stabilizes speed, all is well. Until I put a load on it.  Then it squeals again until the speed stabilizes. I only made a hand full of cuts in a 1/2" of plywood. Left the speed high (other than a couple of no load tests of the speed controller -- confirming the squeal).  Since the squeal goes away when the speed stabilizes, I suspect the motor controller circuit is having a problem.

Or is this normal?

BTW, my C12 keeps on making work easier than a 12v ni-cad is supposed to.

The TS 55 does not sound like a circular saw due to its design. This is normal. I wouldn't say it sounds like a pig, but it's not what some customers expect. If you think there is an issue with the saw, I would suggest calling our service guys and let them hear it run over the phone, or post a video here for us to review.

Thanks, will be at a dealer this weekend anyhow. Will ask them to power up the display model. That should tell me what I need to know.
Sorry, squeal like a pig might be a bit dramatic -- how often do you get to say that?!

As you will be at a dealer anyway, why not take your saw with you for a direct comparision?

The demo saw sounded like mine, and the salesman thought my description of the load adapting sound as normal.  So I guess all is well.  Thanks!

  The sound is more like what I would describe as a vibrating growling noise.  You can sort of test for it by purposely varying the feed rate during a cut. You will hear it come and go as you do that. It can also be a tip off telling you if you are feeding too fast, too slow, or consistently.

Great description of the 'sound of music' it makes. A little disturbing in a first cut experience.

Shane, perhaps the next sticky pages should be the sound these tools make under load and at start.

I never have had an issue with my tools in regards here, but a lot of questions pop up.  I see them on the FOG all the time.

I actually wasn't very clear... I meant for someone to record the actual sound as an audio clip to store on the site.  So people get the warm and fuzzy's when they fire up the TS 55 for the first time and hear that grinding electronic sound compared their $39.95 Home Depot/Lowes special.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I'm pretty sure there's a sound clip on here (somewhere). Also, I think Brice might have it on his website. I think the videos we have are good reference for the sound of the saw. But, I'll see if I can crank mine up and run it when I get back home and post a clip in this thread.

What I've seen done on a couple sites with too many stickies is to reduce it to one sticky -- containing links to all the previously stickied threads.  Make it easy to find them all, but doesn't use too much space.
