Stair refurbs in oak and glass

View attachment 5Been doing a few stair refurbishments the last month replacing newels, hand and base rails in oak and veneering the stringers with oak veneer ply then and installing glass ballistrade using 10mm toughened 2 jobs were on chrome brackets the other with rebated hand and base rail here's a few pics

1st job glass on brackets

2nd job glass on brackets the was an open riser stair case and I in filled them at the request of the elderly client

Looks real nice, initially I thought that the glass would work better for a contemporary stairway, but I really like the look of it...better than traditional spindles, less clutter and easier to dust.

Questions: In reply 3 every tread has a groove routed in the middle and towards the front, what's that for?

In reply 5 every tread has what appears to be some protective paper/cardboard on the top of each tread is that what it is?

Yeah the more glass ballistrade I fit the more I like it, I prefer the look of the glass rebated into the hand and base rail over the brackets though.
In answer to your questions the cove grove routed in the treads I assume was to aid in grip as the stairs had open risers before the refurbishment and were stained without any carpet.
In the other pic there is no protection it is just the imprint of the old underlay which is left on the tread.

Great job and I agree that the rebate looks better than the brackets. It just looks less cluttered

Great job. Like the rebate as well. Much cleaner than the brackets. Nice doors too.

Thanks guys, the doors look nice but are just veneered chipboard so not the best quality but were buy no means cheap
