Just bought this Stanely no 71 off ebay with a few new cutter heads compliments of Veritas. Want to touch this plane up a bit and need some recommendations.

The plan-
Going to lightly hone the sole and sand/oil the handles. The nickel plating is all but gone - not planning to replate and definitely not putting any Rustoleum on her... I was planning to dip the body in a citric acid solutions to remove surface rust which brings me to my question.

Would you even bother with the rust or leave it, maybe just clean up the threads on the adjuster knob/rod? If I do dip it, would you spray a thin clear (maybe matte finish?) to help head oxidation? Any other suggestions to help seal the top of the bed - I live in 80% humidity...my hand tools are prescribed to regimen Renaissance Micro-crystalline wax btw.

Anyone use Bostik TopCote? Would this help maintain a "raw metal" look on on the cast iron? Or maybe light coat of linseed oil?

I should note, this is a widely available plane and relatively inexpensive. I am not concerned about resale, just keeping it clean and sharp.

Thanks for your time
