Thinking about getting the DeWALT DW735 with a helix cutter head? Any suggestions? I am restricted in space and most likely will plan boards so size wise this should be enough. Other makes? Open for ideas....

Got mine about three months ago.  Haven’t added the Shelix yet but plan to.  Has done an incredible job so far (mostly maple, walnut and cherry).  Built a wheeled cart for it and added a Magport to the dust port.  Shop is small so I need to wheel the planer out to use it.

On a side note, am absolutely impressed but the Magport.  Quality and function are great and so is the price.  100% would recommend it to anyone who need removable DC!!

I have heard good things about the dewalt.

However when I was looking last year for a bt planer, a old carp buddy recomended the Makita.

He said his lasted for years (something like 15 with some minor repairs).  I looked into it and I noticed that they really didnt change their design much and like the dewalt its sold all over so parts are available.

Well I chose the Makita mainly because its easy to use been around for a while w no design changes which told me its a tried and true machine. Im happy I did. Its light not heavy to move, easy to use and works great.

Yea the DW735 is the tried and true best for benchtop planers. Really no reason to look at anything else if you have the coin for the DeWalt.

Came today after three month waiting (OEM version = same diameter).....

I would have liked to get the Dewalt for three reasons: the open design on the sides (makes it easy to remove chips), the included blower and the shelix head option.

I settled on the Makita 2012 NB for one simple reason: the Dewalt 735 isn't available in Europe.
