In episode 158  this last Fri. when Sedge was showing how to change the blade on the Kapex KS 120 REB he had used a step key that he pulled off the back tool/key storage holder. I'm sure it was a standard 6 mm and some other size that could possibly be used for other  adjustments on the saw. I thought this would be really neat if it were possible.
Curious if anybody knows what he was using or any more information about the hex key.

There is a step hex with a 3 mm long end and 6 mm short end ... which ships with the new self-aligning FS/2 rail connectors. The key is same-size as the standard 6 mm hex key that ships with the TS series saws.

I believe the idea with the step is to not give (too much) leverage to the 3 mm key as the connectors must not be over-tightened as well as preventing one to lose the key for the connectors ...

In practice I do not like it - one loses the "long end" 6 mm option which is very practical once the blade screw is loosened when changing blades. Instead I use a (relatively) big 3mm hex key with a handle that I keep along the connectors.

The older Kapex was shipped with a 6 mm and 3 mm step hex key. The 6 mm end for the blade and the 3 mm end for the lasers.

Interesting ... it seems they re-used that for the connectors.

First off... [welcome] to the FOG.  [big grin]

Ya, that's a 1973 Norton I purchased new in 73. It was originally a 750 Interstate but I turned it into a 750 Commando. The rear tail section is from a 1971 Fastback. I did a lot of engine modifications to increase horsepower & RELIABILITY.

Talking about Dunstall, the entire exhaust system and the rear-sets are all Dunstall along with some internal engine parts. With the new garage, I hope to have it back on the street next summer.  [blink]

Does this look similar to what you're referring to?

yes that looks like it. What are the hex sizes and would they be useful for the Kapex REB. As Cheese had said the 6mm for saw blade and the 3mm for the lasers would be what I was hoping for but my saw uses (2.5mm for the lasers).
Thank you.

[member=44099]Cheese[/member] yoooooooo! that thing is awesome!!  thanks so much for sharing!  I just sold my GSXR monday and convinced my dad to rebuild a basketcase commando with me.  He is sort of a guru for the "NONO" (northern ohio norton owners) so i am hoping to learn the tricks for getting those things running well.  been in love since the first time i tickled the carbs lol.  did you get much snortin in this summer season?  And thanks for the welcome, this place is an awesome resource i had taken for granted!

Let me correct myself... [tongue] [tongue]...the 6 mm is for the saw blade attachment bolt and the 3 mm is for the saw blade bolt guard. The lasers are indeed 2.5 mm...sorry about that.

Thanks for the kind words [member=80832]JoeVassel[/member] ...when you start the Norton rebuild make sure to start a new thread because I'd be very interested to follow the build...all things British interest me...except their food, fish & chips excepted.  [smile]

Although that motorcycle statement while correct, it isn't entirely British exclusive...[smile]...as I also have a 1974 Bultaco 360 Pursing open class motocrosser that I also purchased new that needs a general going-over. I also have all of the original fiberglass parts for that bike because I removed them before I destroyed them.  [big grin]

My hope is that this new garage build will hopefully provide a ready conduit to refurbish some of these items that are in minor disrepair but that I've held onto for over 40 to 50 years.

Hmmm...did I ever mention the rounded top Coke machine that has the full length window/door to allow for removal of the beer bottles Coke bottles that's circa 1958-1968?
