I've just finished this copy of a Stickley design in strand woven bamboo plywood. It was designed as a bedside table but I'll be using it as a printer cabinet. I think the dimensions are a bit off. I took the overall dimensions from the Stickley site and reverse engineered it, but I think the dimensions they list were of the top , not the cabinet itself. So I think it's 2" wider and deeper than it should be. Just doesn't look quite as delicate as it should...

Finished in Formby's Tung Oil

First here's the drawer stop detail (credit to FWW for the idea) that is mounted under/inside the top:

The exposed plywood edges won't be to everyone's liking, but I like it, and your workmanship looks really good.

And, talk about sturdy! You could almost use it for an anvil stand.

It has architectural honesty as the prats who sit in offices drawing things that dont fit for a living would say. I like it and oddly I know a manufacturer of kitchens in the UK that use an edgebanding on there kitchen cabinets that looks like birch ply end grain. So its obviously ply is to some body's taste.

Howdens do it alot.    Birch ply units are nice    units to try and look like birch ply on the ends........ is odd I think.  BUT  the kitchens I have fitted with ply edging does look nicer than the cheap white units.

The late great James Krenov admitted  that ply was better for cabinet building, of course he made his own high quality ply!

When you think about it, n solid wood we go to great lengths to conceal end grain on solid wood.

Maybe we need to rethink what signifies quality.

I never would have thought to put Stickley and Bamboo together.  BUT, nice call!!!!
I think it looks fantastic!!!!
Nice work indeed.

I really dig it! I love the exposed edges and joinery. It's not often you see a full piece of furniture built from sheet goods. Great job!

Nice work.

I just laid a huge strand woven bamboo floor. Very itchy and persistent splinters when wearing shorts.....

So, the plyboo is not prefinished obviously, as an engineered flooring product would be.
How does it sand? What kind of glue is the binder?

It sanded fairly easy, especially with the RO 90. I found it didn't take long to get a nice 220 grit surface. Sanding the corners early on is worth it to remove the splinter problem. Helps if you develop "plyboo hands" (kinda like "sea legs") to handle it correctly and minimize those.

I just used Gorilla Glue (PVA) and it worked great. I think the gorrilla pva cleans up (on squeeze out) a lot better than the Elmers or Franklin wood glues.
