This is a Stickley Blanket Chest in QSWO that I just finished.  I varied from the original in that I did the metalwork in hammered copper instead of steel.  I've taken classes in coppersmithing at the Roycroft Campus and simply enjoy that medium and the way it looks in Arts and Crafts furniture.  After hammering the copper has a patina applied with a chemical solution.

That copper really touches off an already beautiful piece of craftsmanship and design..

That is STUNNING!  The copper is more sublte than the steel would be.  If it were mine, i'd keep that beautiful finish on that copper as is forever!

Thanks all.  I spray the copper with lacquer after I patina it to lock in the color.  Otherwise it would change in reaction to the atmosphere over time.

The bed is, for lack of a better term, a family heirloom; designed by a family member who worked for Dresher brass bed company many years ago. It isn't a perfect match for a home filled with craftsman style furniture. However, with the square tubing and craftsman style wood panels in the headboard, that you can't see in the picture, it isn't a bad match either.  In any case, I won't be replacing it

Very nice work.

Love QSWO.

Beautiful work.  Can you share any details about the construction.

Thanks

The sides, top, and bottom are all typical rail/stile construction.  The rails/stiles of the sides and top are all cut from 5/4 QSWO.  The panels are all glued up from solid 1/2" QSWO.  The sides of the chest fit together with a miter joint with a spline for added strength.  The bottom rails and stiles are 4/4 QSWO and the panels in the bottom are made from aromatic cedar.

The metalwork is all hammered copper and it is attached to the chest with pyramid head screws.

Let me know if you need any more detail
