Stihl interesting

Hi Cheese,

I was chatting with our regional Makita rep last year at the Acme tool show, and I asked him "whatever happened to al of your internal combustion outdoor equipment?". He explained that several states or major cities have placed limits on operating hours, or have outright bans (present or pending) on combustion outdoor power equipment, and that Makita preemptively abandoned their combustion division so they could direct more resources towards their cordless division.

Most of my neighbors have transitioned to battery operated mowers, blowers, weed whips, etc..., and I really appreciate how much more quiet and pleasant my weekends are now that I don't have to listen to the drone of small engines around the neighborhood.

Glad to hear you're still enjoying your Stihl, I'm really enjoying my Makita mower.

I've noticed the same thing with my neighbors, it's way more peaceful without all the noise from gas engines.

Thanks...That's very interesting Ron because about 3 years ago I noticed Stihl hugely replacing/updating their chain saw offerings with cordless chainsaws...some of which were their mainstay gas powered units for years...hmmm, what's going on?  Yet I noticed a lack of filling in their garden equipment grouping. My thought was if battery power is good enough for a chain saw...surely it's good enough for a weed wacker.  [big grin]

Part of what prompted this thought, is that while living in the city, I learned years ago it's best not to use any gas powered tools. Using gas powered mowers and leaf blowers seems to not ruffle the feathers of the neighbors but when you haul out the gas powered chain saw, for some reason, that can incite local folks to extremes, and everyone get's their undies in a bundle.

Consequently, I've used a Milwaukee electric chain saw for years...and no one really knows when it gets used.  [big grin]

I have many Stihl, Ego battery machines & recently upgrading towards.Milwaukee.
Quick rough Summary of own experience:
(including the most recent, top Stihl & Milwaukee Forge batteries. For Ego I haven't bought new batteries, my Ego models are from a few years back, ranging from 2.5 to 10 Ah).

Polesaws (longest models):
Milwaukee = Top > Stihl >>> Ego multitool (worthless)

Chainsaws
Milwaukee (esp. last one) > Stihl > Ego

Lawnmower
Ego > Stihl

Normal sized hedge trimmer:
Stihl = Ego

Foldable hedge trimmer:
I have the 2 Stihl models, but no competitor = very good

Lawn trimmer:
Ego > Stihl

All are good tools except the Ego multitool pole saw.
