Someone on freecycle was giving away timber and polycarbonate sheets from an old conservatory, so I took the chance to build a storage shed which one day might be re purposed as a potting shed or a place to sit in the summer. Not sure what the type of timber it is, people have said mahogany or sapele.

The only 2 saws I have is a Carvex and a hand saw which makes things challenging. Slightly wobbly cuts are getting ironed out with my DTS 400. Wishing I had a kapex and a TS55 but still saving up for those and at the moment I refuse to buy cheaper equivalents.

The DTS400 and various rubben 2 grits have been great at rejuvenating some scruffy looking oak. Again a rotex might have been quicker but one day i have one of those too :-)

I can't yet envision what it's going to look like, but it's obvious that it's gonna be sturdy as heck!

Looking forward to the next set of pictures...

Nice to get your materials free like that, it costs enough these days. The wood looks like Meranti to me.

Someone else said the photo looks like Meranti and then they said more like Saplele.

Well, that is possible.I am by no means an expert. Here in Holland mainly two types of hardwood are used for outdoors, Meranti and Merbau because they're the cheapest hardwoods. Meranti looks reddish like in your picture, and merbau is a more darker reddish-brown.

Looking good! Heck, that looks nicer than some kitchen cabinets I've seen!

Cool project! Inherited vintage stock is the best.

My weekend project is to begin building a hybrid timberframe treehouse out of timbers that I have been storing since disassembling our barn a few years ago.

Will be driving 12" timberlocks much of the day!

The theme is definitely "repurposing". Not only the timber, but the brickwork at the side used to be a coal store perhaps as old as 90 years. The mortar looks like lime and was falling apart so I rebuilt the top rows before starting.

The floor joists on one half are oversized because they used to be rafters. As a side effect it helps level out the sloping ground.

The polycarbonate roof will be a nice way to let in some light and one day I might convert it to a potting shed by adding some windows to the doors.
