While searching for info on the Douro Form reversable cutters - ! 5mb Festool 2007 product (routers) catalog
http://www.festoolusa.com/Web_files/Festool_Catalog_2007_2.pdf

OK so the wife most likely threw it out before I got to see it ?  If I got one at all.  Any way it could be that I'm a bit slow and just not looking in the right places.  But I don't recall seeing this until now. The layout of the tools and accessories are far superior (photos & accessory tree) than the Festool USA web site by a factor of 5, yet it's a Festool USA catalog. May be I am missing the "missing link" but how is this accessed through the USA site ?

Where has the link been all this time.  ???  And Why is the Festool USA site not as good or better than this presentation?

I know it's being improved on right now and it shows. Very nice.  ;D

That file is just a copy of the 2007 USA Catalog. This catalog has been arranged better than past ones, but still lacks explanations of accessories.

That link is soon to be obsolete as we release the 2008 catalog, coming soon to a mailbox near you.  Believe it or not, even better than the 2007 version.  Kudos to my colleagues for their hard work, late hours and attention to detail.  You'll see what I mean...  I'll post a link (or someone here may beat me to it) on April 1st.

The PDF version of the catalog can be found (safely hidden) in the gray bar just below the main navigation bar.  There is a link that says "Order Catalog".  Direct link:http://www.festoolusa.com/request_catalog.aspx

I hope to soon have the website equal in usability and content to the catalog very soon.  Trust me, I want nothing more get that done.

Great to hear that about the new pretty pictures due out in both the catalog and web  :)

Web is lookin good - getting better.

Musta been a blind mellon chitlin thing  ;D

Shane, looks great. No idea as to how I missed it last year but what a great job by you and staff. I am very much looking forward to this years.  ;) :D ;D Fred

Shane,

The 2007 catalogue was a noticeable step up relative to the 2006 catalogue.  I'm looking forward to the 2008 catalogue.

Who is responsible for the FestoolUSA website?  I wish that when I am looking at a particular product that one of the sub-tabs for that product would be a link to the exploded parts diagram and parts listing for that product.  That would greatly help in understanding the product and in getting the right parts when needed, and save user time.  I recently tried without success to find the correct parts for the guide rail limit stop (Item 485 827 on page 141 of the 2007 USA catalogue), and none of Bob Marino, Dave McGibbon and Lester Weathington could find the part number for the lever arm screw that is a component of that limit stop.  Instead, it was recommended that I keep the longer lever arm with longer screw (Item 459 887) that is a component of the MFT Stop (used to crosscut pieces to the same length) and cut the screw length to fit the guide rail limit stop.  My goal in this instance is to equip the side stops of my hole drilling jig with these lever screws in place of the thumb screws (Item 438320) that are supplied with the hole drilling jig.

It is often a good idea to have a look at the Festool websites for other countries when you can't find what you want on the USA site. Whilst many of them are in a foreign language, there are quite a few in English, including the ones for the UK, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.  It's probably too late, but here is the parts diagram for the 485827 limit stop for the guiderail, taken from the parts catalogue at www.festool.co.uk :

Limit_Stop.gif

It is listed in the parts "tree" as:

Entire Catalogue
  Accessories general
      Generel (sic)
            485827 Limit Stop

Interestingly, the Clamp Lever (435323) is also used in the RO1 sander!

Of course, the part in question may not be listed in the US catalogue because it is not available in the US, but armed with the part number, you might be able to track one down abroad. At least postage shouldn't cost too much!

Sounds like an interesting project for the Festool Owners Group.  Maybe we could start collecting these exploded drawings in a reposiroty here for easy access?

Are you trying to replace the standard lever arm screw with one that is not available in the US?  Or are you just looking for a replacement of the lever arm screw that comes with the standard US guide rail limit stop?  If you are trying to do the first thing, you could just order a new limit stop (available for $21 at most Festool sellers) and just use the part you need.  Not the best solution, but maybe it would get you what you need.

I don't know if it helps, but, as Forrest Says, this part is also in the RO 1 E package.  It is part #18 in the diagram below:

Dave,

The 2008 catalog is going to be yet another major step in the right direction.  We have a talented team of people working on it and I think everyone will be impressed by the results.

The website has a link to what Festool calls the eKat.http://www.festoolusa.com/parts_diagrams.aspx

It is a reference for spare parts and the Festool USA service and tech support departments use it as a reference when assisting customers with finding replacement parts.  I personally have not used it very extensively so I do not know how complete it may or may not be.  It is managed and maintained by Festool Germany.

Forrest,

BINGO!!  That's it!  Exactly what I was seeking.  Thanks.

A price comparison is intriguing, too.  The correct lever is priced at 6.29 BP which corresponds to ~ US$12.60 at present currency exchange rates.  This lever/screw has a plastic lever

The all metal lever for the MFT fence stop cost US$ 8.40.

Matthew,

I am trying to upgrade the side stops that came with my Hole Drilling Set (Item No. 583 290), by replacing the black plastic screw knobs (Item No. 438320) with the lever arm screws.  That will facilitate clamping the side stops securely to the LR 32 Guide Rail (Item No. 485757 for FS 1080).  Although my hands are not large, nor my fingers of large diameter, I find it difficult to twist those screw knobs to fasten or loosen the Side Stops when on the Guide Rail.

I have also ordered a pair of metal plates (Item No. 442404) shown on the LR 32 parts diagram and list.  I intend to use these with the pair of Guide Rail Limit Stops (Item No. 485827) I already own together with a pair of 5/8" dowel rods and a pair of shop made wooden blocks to make a pair of adjustable side stops for use when rip sawing sheet material.  (For those with more skill than me, the ideal setup might be to use a pair of 5/8" aluminum hex rods, and to attach or inscribe two different sets of scales on them calibrated such that the first scale would be used when the rods extend over the anti-splinter strip and the second scale would be used when the limit stops are reversed so the rods extend over the back edge of the guide rail.  With these stops, I would not need to use the razor blade (or window glazing points) technique.  Too often I find that the first one of the razor blades I have set pops out as I am tapping in the second one.  And the razor blade technique doesn't work so well for me on birch ply and melamine due to their surface hardness.

When I have all the right parts, I will have two separate sets of side stops.  One will remain the short distance set supplied with the Hole Drilling set, and it will remain calibrated for use with the Hole Drilling system.  The other will be for general use whenever I need to repeatedly position a guide rail at a greater distance from the reference edge.

"Uncle Bob" supplied me with the parts that I needed.  He was efficient and helpful, as always.  I will keep the levers he supplied and cut off the excess length from the 6mm threaded shanks.  The 5/8" oak dowels are gripped securely within the side stops.  I have yet to make a pair of adjustable stop blocks to fit onto those oak dowel rods.  This setup will enable me to make accurate repeat rip cuts at ~ 3ft width, more than enought for any project I currently contemplate.

Dave,

Have you considered using an aftermarket lever with matching nut?  There are many online suppliers like McMaster Carr and Reid Tool.  It seems to me someone in this group actually made that side stop modification some time back, but I cannot remember who it was.

Dave Rudy,

Thanks.  I haven't looked to non-Festool parts sources.  I am hoping to keep everything metric and compatible.  I do remember reading the same post that you recalled.  I'm not claiming any originality here, just trying to satisfy my own interest and approach to expanding the utility of the Festool system for my own uses.

Dave R,

I am sure Festool buys those levers from someone else. The suggestion to explore McMaster-Carr or Reid is a good one if you come up dry with Festool through the spare parts approach. They sould be available in metric off the shelf.

Here is a crazy question:  In the last SysNotes they talked about the 2008 catalog.  I clicked the link and went to the Festool site.  The thing is one needs to put a "Company" name into one of the blanks and it is starred which means that it is required, but I do not have a company, so how do I get a catalog?

Put your name as the company. You are a sole proprietor that makes no money, that's common anyway!

Andrew,

I agree that this can be confusing.  Unfortunately, I am unable to change that form functionality.  I would recommend that you enter "N/A" for the company name.

Will that result in every mailiing label sent from Festool looking like:

Joe Customer
N/A
123 Maple St
East Someplace, Somestate

:) :)

Ned, I have been assisting with preparing mailing lists for the catalog.  I can make sure that in instances where the company name is N/A that it gets removed.  Not an ideal solution but the website improvements I am working on will definitely address this issue.

I know the 2008 catalogs will be out sometime soon, but can I get a replacement copy of the 2007 catalog?  I've looked high and low, and can only conclude that the wife must have thrown it out.  Maybe out of protest...

Thanks for the info.  I am not trying to cause trouble.  I understand why it is there, but I just don't know how to answer the question!
