Yeah, I used a couple of sheets for my workbench/cutting table on the job I'm on.

The core is the same between the maple and the birch, no? Just the (thin) veneer is different.

I actually cross shopped all the local stores in their ply selection, and Lowe's seemed to have the better plywood than HD, which surprised me. I always considered Lowe's more homeowner focused while HD catered more to professionals.

I think they were both still C rated though, same prices.

I looked at both and thought the Lowe's offering (off the shelf, not custom ordered) was much better. Both at the $50 mark for 3/4":

The HD sheet has a really really thin veneer sheet, and the intermediate plies are some sort of compressed wood. But maybe more dimensionally stable and less voids? I think number of plies is the same (the Lowe's pic is doubled up).

Standard US rules require face veneers to be 1/42" (.6mm) prior to sanding.  To save money, many manufacturers go to international standards which is .5 mm (.0197") prior to sanding. This is the source of many complaints.

I have done the HD / Lowes comparison too, and have found that it varies as to which has the better plywood and as to if it is good plywood at all. Sometimes it's OK sometimes not. But I have quit buying it at either for things that matter. Had too many problems with it that caused me to have to do refinishing or re-making parts.

I have never had any luck with the specials on Home Depot plywood.  If I were using it to rack out my van or trailer then I might consider, but other than that....

Yeah, definitely hit or miss. I'm building 6 Sysports right now using the 3/4" maple plywood from Lowes, 3 sheets purchased at 3 different times from 2 different stores. Not a lot of voids, but the ones I've found have been pretty good sized.

Good enough for utility cabinets but I don't think I would risk it for any kind of finished cabinets.
