Having just gone through hurricane Isaac, I really came to appreciate my SysLite!! After losing power yesterday evening when the eye passed over, I was scrambling looking for flashlights. Remembered I had the SysLite in the house and put it to work. Wife absolutely loved it as using it on the lower setting it did an awesome job of lighting entire rooms. No flashlight I know of gives as nice and wide coverage and with prudent use it has lasted until power was restored today. Awesome product!!

Hey Jay!
We are all doing fine. Moved to Lousyanna in 96 and have been through 6 hurricanes I think now. I am about 100 miles North of New Orleans and am still way to close to the coast. This one had by far the strongest wind gusts although Gustov had the strongest continuous winds. Luckily the majority of rain fell East of us so we missed the 20+" some got. I have quite a bit of shingle damage and fencing that is bent over. Nothing really bad. I spent 2 solid days prepping the house and yard for the storm and it sure helped. Lost power for only about 16 hours as the tree trimmers have been really aggressive in keeping the power lines cleared for the last couple years. For Gustov 4 years ago we were without power for 6 days. My son got lucky when a tree fell as it just partially landed on his house but no serious damage. When anyone hears about an approaching hurricane now they hit the gas stations hard. All the local stations ran out 2 days ahead of the storm. Luckily I stocked up early. :-)

Really wondering if I can go back to work as work off-shore and the platform sat under the eye for 2 days. Also the airport where the helicopters are stationed got hit really hard and have not heard how they fared yet.

Glad to hear you fared well, Peter!  You know, there is an oil boom in Kansas, and that is about as far from hurricanes as you can get!  [big grin]

Peter K,
glad you are ok.  I feel for you guys.  Here in Connecticut we had a couple of zingers last August and end of October.  Our house was out of power for 7 days with each storm.  Luckily our vehicles were ok and we were able to keep our biggest flashlite going by very careful use and spare batteries on hand, AND lots of candles.  Wood stove for cooking was very handy in October, but for August storm, the outside barbeque did the cooking.

I just recently picked up a Syslite and showed THE BOSS how it lights up the entire kitchen, even on the low setting.  She, so far, complains about the briteness when she looks at it.  She has a hard time understanding that you are not supposed to look at the lite, but look at the areas it is lighting up.  She'll appreciate the next time we find our selves without power.

I keep the lite in a spot where I can find it no matter how dark it may be.  I just put my hand out and there it is.  I am thinking seriously of getting another to keep in my truck during winter (I go out thru long nites to plow snow and always keep two lites in the truck).  A big factor with the Syslite is the number of ways there are to keep it charged to full.

I usually don't spend a lot of money for Christmas presents, as i build most of them in my shop (of course wood costs nothing and Festoys are so cheeeep   ::)) This year i am thnking of getting one for both our son (who plows with me) and our daughter who is in realestate in DC area.  She is a concientious type who often allows herself to be called out in middle of nite to check a threatened property.  I thought the expense for a Syslite was rediculous when i first investigated.  Now, I am not sure i would want to be in situation where I did not know where it is so I can get my hands on it instantly.

Thanks guys!
Yea if I didn't have some experience with high quality and pricey LED flashlights I probably never would have purchased the SysLite. Now I think of the price as extremely reasonable. It is just so useful in so many situations. Thinking of getting at least one more to carry in my vehicle. Would be great when changing a tire after dark, an accident scene, digging through luggage, etc. Like Tinker says, having so many ways to power it gives so many additional options for usage.

As to Kansas! Sorry Alex. I have been in the Western side and the only thing that grows there is dust and grit!!!! The company I work for recently sold all their operations in the state. Sorry but I have to live where there is some green stuff. Actually that is what drives me crazy about working off-shore now. Nothing green!

Now if only Festool could come up with an attachment for the SysLite that would clip on and focus the light into a beam. A true flashlight is best for spot light probably but adding a refector would add just one more usage!

The day I got my light, I just got off work and I HAD to try it out. It was about four o'clock in the morning, and I put it about five feet from my sleeping wife's face, and turned it on.  I thought "Wow! This thing is bright!" She squinched her eyes shut, and burrowed under the covers, laughing and yelling at me at the same time. I'm not sure she could appreciate the even lighting it was giving off though  [tongue]
Really nice light though. I would like to get another one sometime.
