My old Syslite is not charging. My guess is that the battery is kaput.

Are the batteries replaceable?

Yes, the battery can be exchanged.
What does the LED displaying?
In my case it was not the battery it was the mainboard.
The LED was constantly red.

I needed a light "now" so I bought the Syslite II today.

I plugged the new charger into the old light and it worked.

So, the problem was the charger!

I think I can alternate using the new charger between lights.

I looked on the Festool website, but could not find a replacement charger.

I had the same problem with my syslite a while back, but in my case the chargeport on the light was broken aswell.
the original charger for the KAL(I) wasn't available anymore, so I ordered the one for the KAL II version, which works, as you noticed.

So you can order the charger for the newer syslight, HOWEVER, an issue that has come up before is that the 110V spare part price is pretty high (more than double that of the 220V version)

partnumber: 498857 charger usa / gb /aus : USD 80.29 (don't know what the aus has to do with it, afaik they have 220V aswell)

I don't think there is anything special about the charger, is there?
So long as it delivers the appropriate voltage and current, and has the correct size and polarity of jack-plug?

I recently bought a second KAL-II, as I loved the thing so much.
The second one came with an apparently-generic charger (Made in China, 'Sunlight Electronic') with Festool stickers applied - rather than the original clip-together one with region-appropriate mains pin section.

Nope, nothing special about it, I actually checked for it when I needed it, but I needed it quickly, and a generic version from a webshop with shipping costed about the same in my case (both about 20€) (I don't need to pay for shipping if I order festool stuff from a supplier, and pick it up there).

And I'm a bit of a wussy, there happened to be a lot of news items locally at the time, about fires that started when using cheap aftermarket chargers for E-bikes and cellphones.

I just remembered  people on the forum complaining about the price of the charger, I think they imported their lights from Europe before it was available in the US.
