Syslite dimming and turning off after about 10 mins

I had this problem before.  In my case, mine would only stay on for a minute at maximum before dimming and then turning off.  It turned out that the two-part power adapter was not fully seated, I suppose resulting in the Syslite not charging at all,or only partially.

I hate two-part power connectors of any sort.

From the manual regarding charging status. This should indicate whether the SysLite is getting power and whether it's fully charged.

When the light is switched off, the charging state indicator [1-1] displays the operating state of the integral battery for the duration of the charging process:

Charging state indicator green - flashing
Integral battery is charged at maximum capacity.

Charging state indicator green - permanently lit
Integral battery is charged to 80% and then charged fully with a reduced current.

Charging state indicator red - flashing
General fault indication, e.g. incomplete contact, short circuit, battery faulty.

Charging state indicator red - permanently lit
Battery temperature is outside the permitted range.

We have taken to tripoding our syslites and running them corded whenever we don't need mobility with them. Cord it whenever possible and charge the all night long.

ive noticed this a few times but only when the battery is less then half i would say.

My only real issue is that i need a second syslite  [scared]

lol! on one jobsite i had to keep chaising down my syslite because an electrician kept "borrowing" it. I would run out to get a box and when i would come back it was moved to the other side of the room where the electrician was wiring up a plug. I also have to pry it out of my helpers hands! after my wallet recovers from my recent purchase im going to get another one, by far one of the handiest tools ive purchased.

:D

After a full charge, I can confirm mine lasted about 90 minutes too before dimming and then switching off. So seems that it does need a good charge, and that when the battery is not fully charged, it may well switch itself off even though not completely drained.

I haven't done my test, but it has been charging for a while.  One of the things that I guess may be my issue is that flashing green light when charging meant fully charged, so I took it off the charger.  Well this morning it flashed for awhile, then went solid.  Hope to test the time tonight.

But... it doesn’t.  There’s nothing within the Quote Box that tells you how to know when fully charged.
All the green ‘led’ tells you is:
1/   power is getting through to the Syslite
2/   that (when flashing) is charging at maximum current
3/   that (when permanently lit) has charged to 80%, and, is continuing to charge at reduced current.
The Syslite does not tell you when fully charged.

(Would be better if ‘led’ flashed quickly during initial charging, then to go
to a slow flash rate (say once a second) to indicate that charge rate has been reduced – then, be permanently lit when fully charged.)

On page 12 of instruction says that time taken to fully charge (100%) is 180 minutes.
So...you have to time how long it’s been on charge.
Or just leave it on, say over-night – not satisfactory imho.
Maybe the electronics are sufficiently well designed to allow that to be ok.

But, the instruction booklet says nothing as to how to best manage battery charging; to ensure that battery capacity, and, battery life both maximised.
For eg –maybe initially fully charge and discharge a few times, then occasionally fully discharge/charge again if necessary.

We can have no idea of how sophisticated charging/monitoring circuits are, or, how well matched those circuits are to battery chemistry; for the instruction booklet to not give adequate information, re’ how to best look after battery, is unhelpful.

Fwiw:  at 80% my Syslite (on max’ brightness) lasted 75 minutes, and, 90 minutes after charging for 3 ½ hours.  Apart from the 30sec’ very low dimming (which indicates that Syslite is going to shut down; whatever the reason) the light remained on maximum output - as I would expect.
The fact that some Foggers report fairly wide differing experiences with their Syslites does not inspire confidence.
That said - reckon Garry got it spot - make sure really is fully charged.

3Pedal:  lol - yes, electricians really love the Syslite; have to keep your eyes open.  My favourites: 'thought you'd finished with it mate' / 'hope you don't mind...'

Richard.

(removed one word that crept in whilst putting post together.)

Did my test last night when the power went out and stayed on for an hour before I decided to call it a night.  I guess it wasn't charged well enough.

Richard, flashing green means fully charged, not charging at maximum current.

As for charging method to maximum battery life, Lithium Ion is not prone to irregular charging cycles like NiCad and other battery technology. Charge it whenever you want and there shouldn't be a problem, regardless of battery status. For maximum battery, charge for a minimum of 180 minutes per the manual and/or until the LED is flashing green which indicates a full charge.

Shane

Part of my problem seemed to be the flashing green meaning fully charged.  Mine always flashes green for about 15-20 minutes when I first plug it in.  So following the directions doesn't seem correct in my opinion.  Now I will just leave on the charger for 3-4 hours when I need to charge after the battery runs down.

Mine flashes green when charging and then turns solid green when fully charged. But like you said, just keep it plugged in for 3-4 hrs to ensure its fully charged.
