Following on from Shane's "I wish Festool made a...." thread, I noticed that many members have mentioned a lunchbox planer.

I've thought of this in the past too, and even gone so far as to draw one in SketchUp. So, I'd like to present the SysPlaner....

[attachthumb=1]

Based on a Sys5, it would sit atop your vac, has a plug-it on the side, a large connection for a 50mm hose, and opens front and back:

Depth adjustment could be by a winder inside the lid, or better still, motorised with up/down buttons & a digital readout on the front!

What do you all think? Would you buy one? [big grin]

Alternatively, now that we've ordered our FOGtainers, how about a FOGplaner? I'm sure with his talents, Peter could have it refined, designed, prototyped, tested, built, shipped, UL approved, AND in the shops by Christmas... [thumbs up] [thumbs up] [thumbs up]

PS - I'm claiming "SysPlaner" and "FOGplaner" as mine. If Festool want to use them, I want a cut [big grin]

Okay Jonny, sign me up for one.  Although, I'll take mine with the new T-Loc Systainer. [big grin]

PS - you've provided a little intra-office fun for the day as we send around the renderings to fellow employees claiming that this is a prototype, making it look like it's from the Festool Germany R&D team.  Fun times!  [big grin]

Nice imagination! Well thought out.  You should get a job on the Festool R&D team.

Glad you all like it!

Cool!

So, what was the response then?

I wish! I think that'd be my perfect job, apart from having to relocate to Germany. I don't think Festool UK do much designing...

Some people always want more... [tongue]

Well thought out idea, Johnny... I have a lunchbox already, but if this became a reality and had a helical head, I might replace my lunchbox!

I think that's appropriate.  I should say a cut of 1/32" off the top and 3/64" off the bottom..... ;D

Cool idea & nice work, but it would probably cost 3000.00 GBP. I would probably still buy one though  [crying]

awesome job jonny!

this is exactly what i was thinking of when i filled in shanes wish list yesterday.

the festool thicknesser could come with standard blades or have the option of the more expensive helical head with spiral cutters.

i would buy the helical head in a heartbeat.

come on festool, make it happen!!!

justin.

That is such a cool idea!!!!!!!!!!!!
If this was even possible, I wonder what the cutting width would be.

What makes the discussion so great, is the visual aid jonny created. Make is real easy to get behind the product.

JRB,

GREAT JOB!  [thumbs up] [thumbs up]  Thanks for the vote of confidence, but it would not be ready for Christmas.  [big grin] [big grin]

Peter

That is really awesome.  Nice renderings.

This immediately made me think 'baby drum sander' also.  Chalk 'em both up.
