I'm in the process of designing an outfeed table for my table saw and part of the design is storage under the table for my Systainers. Because I have all three versions of Systainers I am going to use the SYS3-SN/4 rails and SYS-AZ drawers. Directions for both models show that the depth of box that houses the rails or drawers in >380 mm (>15 inches). Widths for each model is different, and that's not a problem. My question for FOG is the 380 mm depth, if the back of the box is open, i.e. no rear panel on the box, can the box be slightly less than the specified 380 mm dimension? In measuring the depth of both models, 380 mm appears to extend well beyond the depth of both models. Can the box be slightly less than 380 mm in depth without any adverse consequences?

The reason I'm asking the question is because the side panels are being cut of 18 mm Baltic birch plywood in 5x5 sheets, and after subtracting the width of the track saw blade the last panel will be several millimeters less than 380 mm. Given the cost and scarcity of Baltic birch plywood these days I'm trying to not waste any material.

I think I found a solution. The last panel cut from the sheet was 5 mm too short, but I kept some Baltic birch plywood offcuts from another project that were 5 mm thick. A bit of glue and tape and the panel is now the correct width. Fortunately this scabbed on piece is not visible. I was even able to take two other undersized offcuts and with a couple of dominoes and glue got another panel. Anyway to maximize wood usage!

Yeah, I don't understand that either, why they choose 80mm wasted space. Could have been way more compact.
