Systainer maxi

Hi, folks!

There's a couple of different heights in those maxis, which may or may not be important to your packing arrangement.

I'm just saying this 'coz the briefcase type handle only allows a vertical carry, which will effect weight distribution.  The taller 2 of my 3 maxis have tool inserts, one for 100 x 610 belt sander & frame & another custom-made for a Bosch 12" grinder/floor saw, with separate diamond & abrasive discs, hex wrench & loop handle compartments which hold the contents in a fixed arrangement.  Ply compartmentalisation prevents any nasty surprises & inadvertent damage during transit.

The shorter orange (ex Husqvarna) one has an extremely heavy & solid dovetail jig fitted in the rear half, with a looser packing of assorted fingers, bits, template guide etc. alongside & in front (when it's laid down & opened suitcase-style), with room for a loose (DeWalt) router should the need arise.  This way, when picked up & carried vertically, the heaviest & most solid item is at the bottom, where it can't slide around & damage any other contents.

The only other thing to add is that fully loaded the (albeit smaller) maxi is a heavy bugger so try to resist the temptation to overload.

Thank you for your analysis, [member=9481]aloysius[/member] ! I forgot to say, that i was thinking of handtools. I have that larger version of maxi. Good point not to overload it. It sure does look huge! I agreed with you about challenges with vertical lift. Important that tools does not fall off while carried vertically.
I have Festool dovetale jigg, but I dont think it will fit inside. I'll start lay out tools this week. Will update when I'm done.

So I finely got my Sys-maxi 2 (tall version) I have mixed emotions about it. On one hand it's nicely made and I just had to have it.
Positives:
I have something to do, on my time of, making a toolbox out of it.
I think all systainers will be even more stable under transportation.
High quality product.
Negatives:
My power-tower now is half a size it was before.
Since systainers are facing each other its impossible to separate or connect them half stock without lifting the whole bunch from sys-maxi...
If Tanos firstly made a big systainer, why not make it 2cm bigger, so there will be enough space for a level...
All in all I'm really glad I've got one! But there will not be 2 of them, same as sys-mini... They are absolutely meaningless..
Just my thoughts..

I thought you were intending to use it for hand tools.  In many ways, they're the worst to loose pack.
So much metal, esp. cast iron (heavy). 
So many sharp edges (saws, chisels, planes, marking knives) = damage.  So many delicate & easily damaged surfaces (rulers, tapes, levels, calipers, gauge). 
So much space, & the constant temptation to load up "just one more" sharp/delicate/heavy tool, until you rip the handle clean off the confounded thing from overweight. 

Or there's just so much accumulated "junk" that the particular tool you want will inevitably be at the bottom/back/corner or so small or inconspicuous that it remains hidden.  Toolboxes (well, mine anyway) also seem to acquire an inevitable accumulation of useless loose nails, screws, masonry plugs & other useless paraphernalia.  Be warned.

Personally I don't think the Maxi-Sys is that useful since it breaks from the stacking orientation, doesn't fit the roll boards, vacs, or other transport unit, and carries from the side. If I were you I would return it if possible and go with Toolbox, Standard , Midi, and Drawer Sys for hand tools. The Maxi has it's place for tools that are just too big for others, but even that use has been greatly mitigated by the introduction of the Midi - Sys.

All your arguments are very good. But I have OCD and everything have to match.
Your arguments also make me want to prove you wrong I can make a reasonable toolbox out of it ( at least in my head it look good) I'm exited to hear your appinion! I'll keep you updated.

BTW, I can't return it, it was a special order for me from Germany. They don't sell them in Norway.

Hi, Guys! As promised I gave it a try and made a tool box out of sys maxi. the whole process I'd like to compare with "Gluing an elephant to the car" - absolutely  ridicules! I didn't know how and the most important I didn't know why.
Well the motivation was be cause I promised [member=1619]SRSemenza[/member] and [member=9481]aloysius[/member]
Unfortunately I don't have so much handtools as [member=9481]aloysius[/member] , so there is not a whole lot to fit. But I also tok [member=9481]aloysius[/member] advise not to overload.
I also tried to address [member=1619]SRSemenza[/member] 's concern of vertical lift.
I Wasn't been able to fit all my tool in it anyway, but overall I'm satisfied.
Last picture shows how I may use the lid part of systainer.
