Systainer Sharpening Kit

Hi everyone. I’m still going crazy organizing my shop. This time I was again inspired by some posts I saw on here and made a Systainer insert for my sharpening kit.

It holds:

A universal stone holder
an Atoma 140 diamond plate,
Shapton Pro Splash and Go stones (1000,2000,5000,8000 with space for another)
a strop I made from walnut and leather,
the Veritas sharpening kit
A set of Mini DMT diamond stones (for cleaning the Shaptons)
Some green polish

I modeled the insert in Shapr3d on Ipad then made it with scrap plywood.

That's a neat idea. I have some chisels from Christmas and a block plane for my birthday headed my way. I've never sharpened anything or really gotten into hand tools so I could see copying what you've done here.

Yeah, I remember that thread from a while ago. At the the time I thought it was a great idea, but I was too lazy to make something out of wood myself. I remembered I should have some systainer dividers lying somewhere. After some digging around I found them and made my own version of a sharpening systainer (this is one of those blue anniversary systainers). It works remarkably well. The slots were perfectly spaced for this. I have 5 Shaptons in there, each with their own clamp, and all the stuff that goes with the Veritas Mark II. Oh, and a diamond flattening plate.

Those look like dividers produced by Tanos for the SYS-I.
I got a bundle of them when I bought out a former dealers inventory.  I have several left in the "2020 Spring Systainer Sale".

You are correct [member=68900]Systainer.Store[/member]. These are indeed from Tanos. I have them for both the the Systainer I and II.

And I believe these can be cut easily, is that true [member=66485]hdv[/member]?  I imagine a quick table saw, band saw, hack saw to get your shorter runs.

Tim, are those the same part in both dimensions, just cut down for the short one?

    Nice sharpening set ups. I think I saw one posted that also allowed for the Systainer to become the sharpening bench / table.

Those dividers are / were available in both Sys - II and -I height. Of course they can go into a deeper Sys as well. And the two heights can be used in combination as pictured. And also cut to shorter lengths. If they are not holding quite where you want them (especially if cut to odd lengths) a few drops of super glue will do the trick.

Yes, they can be cut quite easily. Most I did on the small bandsaw, but some smaller cuts were done with just a sharp knive. A few strikes and they break at exactly the right place.
