Systainers - waste of space?

In addition to all their obvious uses, I plan (in the near future) to adapt a Systainer 4 to use as a Cyclone to sit atop my CT22E and am also currently looking for suitable audio components to make Festool Boom Box (you heard it here first folks!). I also think I can adapt some to use on my boat (with a gasketed lid) to store camera and  binoculars as well as fishing tackle etc.

I heard a rumor that Festool was coming out with a 'Radio/CD player/MP3/Battery charger/Power Supply' Systainer sometime soon. Has anyone else heard anything? Bob?

The systainer you mention will also be the charging dock for the new battery powered TS 55! ;)

Well, I don't know about any new battery powered TS 55, but I understand this upcoming Radio/CD player/MP3/Battery charger/Power Supply Systainer will lock to the top of your CT and power-up the CT and any Festool you plug into it. And late next year are plans to introduce a Systainer unit that plugs into any wall outlet and recharges the powerpack wirelessly... the rest is a little sketchy; something about "broadcast electricity" and some fella named Tesla? Of course UL Aproval will delay US availability.

I guess I finally figured out where to put my inverter and the 110v charger for my US cordless tools. It's gonna be really heavy though. Need the rolling pallet now.

Actually, to be serious this time, just heard from a source that I won't expose, but seems Festool has entered into licencing negotiations with the Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory. The project is codenamed "Mike Teavee" and entails the largest Systainer ever at 32 US Gallons. And in a break from tradition, it is cylindrical, has four casters and two side handles. Included is a special dust bag for your CT vac. Seems they've perfected Wonkavison well enough to build a special TV camera into the bag that miniaturizes the contents and transmits the sawdust overhead & into the 32 gallon Systainer. No word yet if it will feature a "Systainer Full" indicator. The projected price is pretty steep, but you'll never have to buy another CT dust bag again. The real beauty of this, however, is it need not take up space in the shop; just set the Systainer out with the trash cans. ;D

I decided to hold off on getting the CV06, we have a 110V dyson arriving that I was going use as a shop vac. I'm thinking the cyclone part would look good attached to the top of a SYS IV, which would attach to the top of the CT22.  ;D
Unfortunately it's yellow.

I watched the Johnny Depp vers. with my 2.5 year old the other day. We kept thinking it was too dark because he was covering his eyes, and cowering in his chair, but every time we turned it off, he started screaming to put it back on. I guess either way, I'm paying for therapy.

Eli,

Our five children range from 18 to 34, no grandchildren yet, so we were spared from seeing the remake. Now don't get me wrong, Johnny Depp, is very talented, but after seeing Gene Wilder a few hunnert times, there'll never be anyone else playing Willy Wonka in this household....

Am I the only guy who finds these boxes a waste of space?
But what do I do with the empty systainers?  They are too nice to throw out but what use are they??
Ideas please.
Thanks.
Phil

I too got tired of wrestling with the systainers. I wound up building this: Festainer.
Seems as those who take their tools from the shop don't mind the wrestling. I'm getting too old for WWF. I have 3 tools in systainers and 13 empty systainers in the attic. I do find uses for them so my advise would be to store them and use when the need arises. If you ever sell one of the tools, you'll definitely want the systainer to include. People are goo goo over them.

Nice cabinet Les! Drawers are the best (IMO) for storing everything. Unfortunately, they are too difficult to take on the road.

My non-Festool stuff is carried in large Plano tool boxes. On a big job I take eight or nine of these boxes on a fold down hand truck. I hate knowing I have the right tool back at the shop so I take a lot of stuff with me. The Planos really hold a lot of stuff. My boxes average 40 pounds each so I am seldom lacking a tool on a job. The downside of the Plano box is that if the thing I need is in the bottom of the box then a whole lot of stuff has to be removed to get to it and then all that stuff has to go back in so it doesn't clutter the work site and the whole process done all over to get the thing back in the box later.

The beauty of the Systainer is the rapid access to the tool. Usually it's merely seconds to get the Festool you need, unless it's in the Systainer on the bottom of the stack. Even then, retrieving that tool is faster for me than getting one out of the bottom of a Plano box even if it is on the top of the Plano stack.

Drawers are best but Systainers are fastest. I guess this is why the Systainer Ports are fairly short, so they remain portable enough that you can take the drawers to the job site. Anyone know what the Sys Ports weigh and how tall they are with casters?

Gary - I totally agree. I like Johnny Depp, but Gene Wilder nailed it forever.
Les - really nice drawers man.
