has anyone owned/used the sys4 with the plywood inset...  is it worth it and what draw backs if any has anyone seen

im thinking of buying one if its worth the money.. the home depot tool bags suck, and for what i have spent over the years i could have bought 5 of the sy4 witht he inserts.

I bought one and ended up selling it.  Great design, but they are designed for a pretty specific set of tools.

There are several of the tool inserts sold by Festool / Tanos.  

The best examples I've seen for inserts have been the ones outlined by Frank Pellow here on the FOG - where he made his own.

Now as for the Sys 4 with the insert I have two, One I set up with my cabinet making tools, the other with my MFT setups Qwas Dogs, Clamps, etc.
Yes in reality they are somewhat designed for certain tools, but they are usable in my mind for many other setups also. Strangely right now I am considering another to add to my goodies
Tanos  does make a few other style inserts for this systainer , although I am not sure where you could obtain them. You might check with Sean at Tool Nut on that.
I believe Peter Halle posted a link for these on the forum, you might want to do a search for that

Also someone recently posted a custom wood tool insert , done in the Tanos style. I can't find it now,  anyone?

Not the one I am thinking of. This one was a thread started by the builder. The insert looked like a Tanos  wood insert but had been custom made for the posters tools.  I have tried several search parameters , but I must be missing the name  by just a bit.

Yep, lots of cool stuff. I'm kinda surprised that it doesn't include any T-locks. Might that be an older catalog?

I have it, but swapped for a Sys 5, and I love having it.  It's at my new house which I started on todaay.  I'll take a few pics.  I have tons of stuff in it, and permanently on a roll board.  Doubles as a rolling stool!

Tanos actually make all the systainers including the ones for Festool. They are a sister company or part of the same group. Lots of other companies are starting to use the Tanos classic systainers for their powertools as well. I can think of Makita, Metabo and Mafell. I haven't seen any using T-Locs apart from Festool.

T-Locs are also available for BTI, Bernier,  and others. If you do a search on e bay Germany you can see a lot of them.

I have the Sys4 with tool insert. It is nice and holds a lot of tools. I think I have 2 tool boxes of tools inside of it. The insert seems flimsy but is rather strong. There isn't a special place for chisles but there is a round hole that will hold a small Gatorade bottle with the top half cut off for holding small peices like jigsaw blades or coping blades. Depending on what kind of work you do you might need to build a speciffic insert.  I want an insert for electrical tools but think I am just going to build one after I layout how I want them in there. Really do not want to open it and remove the insert to access the tools like I have to do with the Sys4 I bought. The bucket Bro or Husky  bucket insert works better for me and I would like to incorporate that design into a Sys4 or Sys5. All the tools around the perimeter with the center for storage of wire nuts, staples etc.

All in all I have all of my special tools in the Sys4 that I do not need everyday. List all of the tools you would need in the Sys4 and how you would want them laid out and work out a design that would best work for you. I have seen many good ideas on here. Save your money and just get the Systainer 4. Hope that helps.

You probably saw this but.....

Maybe one of these with custom tool holders on top of a Sortainer for the wire nuts etc would work out for you?

Yeah one or 3 of those would be perfect to hold a few boxes of screws,wire nuts and misc other stuff. I saw them the other day on somebodies post. Any idea how much and where I can get them here in the USA? Seems a lot of the cool stuff that comes out is over the pond in the UK.Lucky Bistards lol  [tongue]
