Alright, apologies if this is elementary but I've been trying to twist this for the past couple hours.

Was using a Fisch 20mm Brad Point bit on the T18+3E to drill out some mortises for a stick chair through 3.5" pine. Worked great, but when I went to unseat the bit, the chuck won't release. I tried with a towel. I tried with a glove. I didn't want to put a wrench on it. Is there something I'm missing? I think the chuck is just twisted stuck.

Thanks

Tap the body of the chuck with a piece of wood.

Tom
So this morning, I get out to the shop and get to tapping the chuck with a piece of Doug Fir timber. Tap, tap, tap. Darn thing won't unscrew. Tap, tap, tap. Still nothing. My palm is getting a bit raw. Then, I start to tap on the bit itself and it slightly moves. Success?

No, you fool. Turns out that with the 1/2" shank, there really isn't much that the chuck needs to turn to disengage and lock fully open. And with such a large shank in the chuck, it doesn't really wobble - and looks seated.

So, this whole time that I've been tearing my palms up, I could have just pulled the bit out of the chuck...

This is why I'm the kind of person that needs safety gear, like the SawStop!

Thanks, Tom.
