T 18 circlip niggle

Just got a new T 18 which is great apart from I'm having an annoying problem with the circlip in the end of the driveshaft.

I presume it's there to hold in the hex bits when you put them directly in the end of the drive shaft if you are not using either of the chucks.

Sometimes the bits seem to get hooked up on the circlip when I try to remove them, when I have looked closely the circlip on my T 18 is slightly smaller then on my T 15.

It's not much of a problem with the small bits because they come out ok with a bit of a wiggle but I have one of the Fisch countersinks which are supposed to fit hex or centrotec and that is when I have the main problem.

Because the countersink is used in the centrotec chuck I cant wiggle it to remove it so when it gets hooked up on the circlip I struggle to remove the countersink bit and/or the centrotec chuck.

I have tried bending the circlip but it just springs back. I know the Fisch bits are probably the problem because the centrotec thing was not designed to be used like this but just wondered if anyone else has had this problem?

I can buy a new circlip for a few pounds so might try that if this one does not slacken over time.

Thanks in advance for any advice or opinions, Doug

LOL  [big grin]  Literally had this the other day when I spotted an eBay deal and added another drill to keep as an 'at home drill' (for the second time this year I'd found myself without a drill at home, and that means I simply don't have enough :) )

Anyway, checking it over after it arrived I shoved a few different bits in it and noticed some were getting mild stuck more than seemed normal. Then I used my Fisch countersink in it, and after use couldn't remove it or the centrotec chuck. After a lot of WD40 and pulling/spinning/pulling I was one pull away from grinding the centrotec chuck off when it finally came free. .

THE FIX was removing the retention c-clip with the help of a sturdy needle, prying it open a bit more and re-fitting it.

THE PROBLEM was the clip was not splayed out enough in it's recess and the ends of the clip were fouling/catching on the edge of the ball detent, that is quite sharply edged on those bits. Mine has been fine since though not used much. . time will tell.

It's obviously a bit of a quality control issue as none of my previous T18/C18 drills had this issue. They all said made in Germany though, just sayin  [eek]

Ha Ha, it's not just me and user error then, that's good to know.

I hope you weren't as dumb as me mrB, I spent 20 mins trying to remove the centrotec chuck and bit then as soon as I got it off I put it straight back on again to see if it got stuck again leading to another 20 mins of tugging and pulling  [crying]

I shall remove the circlip tomorrow and give it a bend, thanks for the advice.
