T-Loc with Domino?

Pete,

The first tool that will be delivered with the T-Loc will be the RO 90 DX sander in March. Other tools will follow that, not sure of a definitive date for sure.

But what happens if we don't want the 'T" lock systainers.

I have too many to change over.

Cheers

Paul

Paul, at some point all systainers in the US/Canada will transition to T-Loc. The T-Loc is backward compatible with the "classic" Systainer. The one caveat is that the classic Systainers can only attach below a T-Loc, not on top. So, there shouldn't be a need to switch over. It's all part of the same system, the connecting and latching mechanism is just different (and SO MUCH EASIER). I think those who have concerns about the T-Loc will quickly realize the advantages once they use one.

About that...

What about making a short adaptor to go between the T-Loc and a "classic" sys above it?

Something that a T-Loc could attach to underneath and which had the clasps above it for mounting to the classic?

Just a suggestion.

For example, I keep my RO 150 systainer mounted underneath my C12 systainer; if someone got one with the new T-Locs and wanted to keep it underneath another tool they use more often (with classic), this might provide a simple means for them to do so...

Or wait until the T Loc hits NAINA land! Here on this side of the pond Ebay is full of the "older" systainers that are being flogged off, I assume so people can upgrade to all T Loc.

This might happen with you and those that want to keep the older style will be able to pick them up for a good price! [big grin] [big grin]

Just switch the contents. Much easier.

Assumes that the inserts are compatible...  are they?  I think I've seen comments on this both ways (some say yes, some say no)...

And that you have systainers of the same size in sufficient quantity to make it all work...

If those assumptions ring true, then cheaper as well...

Shane, do you mean all Festool Systainers or all of them, as in no more classics including Tanos?

Brice, sorry for not being more specific. Festool Systainers will all transition to the T-Loc and we will not offer classic Systainers after that. Tanos will continue to offer both options. There are a couple of exceptions, the Festool Sortainers (all), Maxi Systainer, and Mini Systainers will remain the "classic" type. There may be others but those are the ones that come to mind.

The T-loc on top of a heavy stack of classics is very stable and I hate to admit it but, I like the handle.

Shane, can you answer the insert question? Will the classic inserts drop into the T-Locs?

Yes, with a bit of altercations.

You would most likely have to clip the corners of the classic in lay for it to fit into the t-loc's.

Like some of you, I have heard both than they drop right in and another story that they need alterations. Personally, I haven't tried it. I personally think it's a mixture of both depending on the insert. I'm out of the office and don't have a T-Loc at home so I can't test it myself at the moment.

Edit --- Maybe one of our friends from across the pond can shed some light on the matter.

You have no idea how happy I would be if I could answer this question, since this would mean my domino + assortment sys + carvex would have arrived. I'm however still waiting after ordering these items 3 weeks ago. Festool Belgium has apperently some delivery problems.

greetz,

Though not a perfect fit, the T-Loc insert of my Domino fits a classic systainer.
When I say "not a perfect fit" I mean the the insert's outline doesn't follow the inside of the Systainer precisely. However: it fits, and it restains the tool just right.
I guess there is a slightly bigger chance that small pieces ( like hex wrenches and such ) will find their way to the underside of the insert, if the Systainers are bashed around.
The T-Loc insert is a little less tight fitting in the T-Loc then the classic inserts are in the classic Systainers, probably just to make them fit in the classic.

I really like the T-loc, it's much faster and it's very convenient to be able to open a systainer that's not the top one.... And the handles are way more comfortable.

OTOH, It really takes a bit of mind practice to operate the lock, sort of nifty little puzzle every time - I certainly didn't expect that for it seems quite straightforward [blink]
Apparently for me, some things are best made super-obvious [embarassed]  But I'm sure I will get used to it sooner or later.

The pros definitely outweigh the cons in my book.

Regards,

Job

I am sure I am not alone in postponing a non-essential tool purchase in order to get it in a T-loc systainer. In my case it is an ETS sander, probably the 5-inch.

Thanks Shane, guess I'll be getting a classic systainer...

I have tried 4 different classic inserts in the T-Loc, none fitted.

I do like the handle on the T-Loc. I don't like that the systainers themselves aren't square anymore. And I don't like the twisting lock mechanism. It's uncomfortable and it strains my hand.

Btw, a Festool dealer close to me told me that the patent on the classic systainer was expired so that everybody now could make them. He said that this was the reason Festool decided to update the systainer to a model they could patent again. Is this true?
