I have a T15+3 drill and overall I like it a lot.  But this weekend it seemed to have excessive runout so I chucked a piece of drill rod in and I am getting .005" of runout on the rod right next to where the chuck grips the rod.

Does anyone else have more runout that they expect?  I checked my old Panasonic and it's around .001"

Two obvious questions:

Has drill been dropped?

Are you sure chuck is seated properly?

Another, have you tried checking any of your other chucks?

With a removable chuck like on the Festool, I'd expect one of the trade offs to be run out.  But I don't really worry about drill chuck or drill bit run out with a hand drill.  I'm very certain that my ability to hold the drill still is a lot worse than the .005 inches of run out you measured.  I'd wager there are only a handful of people on the entire planet that could hold a hand drill that still......

Check that the hex hole in the end of the drill -- the driving portion where you insert bits or your chuck fits into -- is clean and no loose metal is in there.  When I first got my C12, I had a similar experience and that is what I found to be the reason -- it was hard to see initially, but there was something left over from manufacture stuck in there.
