T18 4.2Ah batteries in Australia?

I am thinking of buying a T18 + 3 set but can't find the sets with 4.2Ah batteries in Australia (only 2.6 or 3Ah).  Does anyone know if they are available/coming to Australia?  Are they worth waiting for (extra capacity/runtime-wise) or do they just add more weight?  It seems like they may not weigh much more as total weight is listed as 1.75kg with 4.2Ah battery on Festool USA website vs 1.7kg with 3Ah on Festool Australia website??

I personally haven't seen the T18+3 out there with the 4.2Ah Batteries, but the DRC18 is available now and that has the 4.2Ah Batteries.  Slightly bigger drill but just as comfortable  and offers more protection around the body.
The only thing in the T18+3 set wouldn't get the with the DRC is the Offset eccentric Chuck

I just weighed a 3.0Ah and it came in at roughly 550g  the 4.2Ah was roughly 700g these weren't entirely accurate scales ( my Digital has flat batteries) the 4.2ah also had the protective bumper.
I was surprised to see the difference as holding them in my hands they felt nearly the same.

I personally wouldn't go with the T18 ... I grabbed one a while back, but did a quick about face and got the PDC18-4. The PDC and DRC are much better options, just a little heavier.

Don't get me wrong, the T18 is a great drill. it's just that I think the 4 speed gearbox of the PDC/DRC rocks!

I second Kev, I use mine on the site all day and its great. Haven't had the need for 4.2ah, the 3.0ah work fine and last a long time
But back to your question don't know when they are coming here, probably with all the other new tools later in the year, may even be in the next promo

The DRC does look awesome but it seems like more of a heavy construction drill and a big unit.  I am just not sure how often I would need the high rpm or hammer function to have to live with its size/weight for more general domestic/woodworking use. Any thoughts?

I am also thinking of getting a cxs (but wish it was brushless in the same footprint) in addition to a bigger drill. I think I would prefer to use two drills (one drilling and one driving) in most applications.  I think maybe the T18 would more appropriate in woodworking applications (not that a cxs couldn't cover mosts needs there).

DRC vs T18??

I am currently using a brushed 18v makita lxt drill/driver/hammer drill and impact driver pair.

For clarification, only the PDC has a hammer mode, the DRC is a "little" more compact.

I decided to take a few Photos for comparison:  Not perfect but hopefully a good representation for you.

As i only have a T15, I compared that to my recently purchased DRC 18

The batteries are 3.0Ah on left and 4.2Ah on the right. ( the height difference is due to the extra bumper fitted to the battery )

Overall not a huge difference in size between these drills , but if my memory serves me correct the T18 is slightly heavier and larger than the T15

Thanks for that.  Not much bigger.  Something to think about.

I use the makita lxt stuff as well. Until about a month ago i was using the BHP451, now i use it's replacement due to the gearbox going to tool heaven again. Having handled both the PDC/DRC they really feel a lot lighter than the makita's. :)

So the DRC is now on my to get list. :D I don't need the percussion mode on the PDC as i use a cordless SDS anyway for masonary/ concrete drilling.

Can I ask what made you change your mind about the T18 and switch to the DRC?  What sort of applications do you use the DRC for mainly?

Mines the PDC, but anyway ... I already have a C15 + Ti15 and the T18 doesn't give me that much more oomph, so I saw the PDC as a top end tool for the jobs where I needed maximum power. I also thought the lowest speed would work really well with large hole cutters. I went PDC over DRC because I thought it'd be handy for the odd 8~10mm hole in masonry if I couldn't be bothered grabbing the SDS.

What I found in use was that the PDC doesn't feel that heavy at all and is quite well balanced.

Ironically the CXS is still the one I use the most!
