Table with a Twist

It's beautiful.
Would you call the style "shaker"?
(except for the twist)

Now I want to try my hand at that twisty bit thing  [big grin]

Where did you get your inspiration for this project?

René,

Yes, I have made a table with the same legs before.  That would have been 13 months ago.  The inspiration for the design came from... nowhere that I can determine.  Just out of my head, experimenting.  I don't remember what led me to experiment to discover the twisted leg.  That was probably three years ago or more.  Thanks for the compliment!

Hi Mavrik,

I'm not so good with furniture styles but I suppose in basic shape, it could be seen as Shaker.  I did a quick search for "shaker table" and noticed two recurring differences: less overhang on the sides and wider aprons and a drawer or two.  I just build it the way I think it should be built and don't worry about making it resemble Shaker or Federal or whatever.  I'm glad you approve.

You'll like my next bit on making the aprons.

See JMB, how he put it in a vise, then just grab it and keep twisting.   [big grin]

You probably COULD make the twists that way with this stuff:

This is not a joke.

My local lumber yard tries to sell me boards with twists like that all the time.

Nice table!

Your table has sparked a woodworking interest in my limited flooring brain.

Really dig the table. About time someone brings something new, to the table!  [tongue]

Did you know that the first table I built with twisted legs had a top that many disliked because they said it looked like flooring?
