My comment had to do with buying a tool with no intent of keeping it after you're done with your project.  I don't operate that way.  If I bought the tool and had no experience with it and tried it out and it didn't suit my needs then I would have no problem returning the tool.

You admitted in your initial post that doing so would make you feel kinda guilty.  Then you threw in the part about trying to justify the possible action based on how much you have spent and how the prices have gone up.

I have a personal issue - you asked - with a scenario like the above.  If you buy a tool and then sell it then there is no issue in my mind.  Sorry If I wasn't clear.

Peter
I feel very much as you do on this point.

Buying with every intention of using any product (including, but not limited to festool) for a short time then returning the product for a refund when you have done the job, feels to me as dishonest.
Yes it is permitted by many companies in the US but it just feels wrong.

And the title "Taking advantage of the 30 day return policy" shows that even the OP may have some of the same feelings.

I get the general feeling that FOG members in particular and Festool owners in general tend to be more generous and honest than the average, maybe I am delusional but I don't think so.

I appreciate the offer. After more thought and some useful and not so useful opinions I will stick with my original thought and sell the new Domino when I get mine back. The slight financial loss is minor and I'll think of it as a rental fee while my machine is being repaired.
If you sale before Apr 1 then I am all for buying it!

...but the rest of me thinks about the $20,000 or so I've spent on Festool, not to mention Festool not feeling at all bad about ridiculous yearly price increases.

Not sure how much youv'e spent and the price increase has to do with anything...

I'm not sure your comment is necessary or helpful. Please finish your thought or don't comment

Please.  You asked for thoughts, and you got some.

Also useless, thank you

Congratulations, your kids (if you have any) will be proud of you for doing the right thing.
Anybody can take advantage of a/the system, and rationalize it because they think someone or a company has made too much money or they charge too much etc.

Tim

Regardless of my decision my opinion of Festool has not changed. I think the yearly price increases are ridiculous and they take advantage of very loyal customers while showing no appreciation to them. I appreciate the very good customer service and warranty but I also expect it. Basically I continue to buy Festool for that reason and of coarse quality. My Domino machine lasted 5 years with no issue, solid run for a machine that got as much use as it did. As a professional I expect things to break after the rigors of daily use.

The OP has asked that based on the input and further consideration that this thread be deleted.  To do so would be an inservice to those who posed answers to the question asked in my opinion.  As a compromise I will lock this thread pending further review by others with administrative oversight.
