Around a week ago I was on the Woodpecker site looking at something and remembered that I had an idea to make the story sticks more useful.  So I used their generic email link and sent it in.  In five days I had exactly what I was thinking of in my hands.

While it is amusing to think of Richard running down to the shop and churning out an idea and making it into a product in that time, what actually happened was almost as impressive.

As I said I sent the email to their info address.  Within a couple hours it had been routed to Richard Hummel and he had responded.  Turns out that other "great" minds had had the same idea and it was recently finished but not yet in the catalog.  And I really had it in my hands five days later.

To me just the fact that they are looking at existing and successful products for ways to improve them is why they are my go to company for squares, marking and measuring equipment.  The fact that the boss is as likely to respond directly to emails and on the FOG doesn't hurt a bit either.

What was the idea?

Holes in the tabs to make shelf pin holes?  That's what I wish when I use my story stick for divided light doors. It's always a nail biter to ensure the shelves are lined up and hidden behind the door rails.

I am definitely interested to hear what's the new accessory for the story stick.

Sorry for the delay, I was out and about.

The idea simply was at times to replace the black end piece with one that extended below the surface of the story stick.  That way you could use it as a hook and lay it in the field of the workpiece instead of just using it on the side.  I also have it on good (excellent) authority that offset tabs are in the works too.

Since I am doing more casework than anything else, this nearly doubles the utility of the story stick for me.  I can take a distance (not measurement) off the piece and then directly use the story stick to set the stop for my cut.  I was doing this before but it was awkward as I was using the tiny lip on the top of the black stop as the hook.

I hope they offer these pieces so I can upgrade my 24" and 48" Pro Storysticks. I love them for domino layout.
