My wife was cleaning out our garage and ran across my coveted "samples" box of birch, maple, walnut, teak plywood samples and all had termites happily gnawing their way through the samples. These are only 2 years old and we had the house tented when we bought it but this is very, very frightening. Seems unless I make my cabinets out of hardiboard or stainless steel or porcelain, those little bastards will eat anything made of wood! They seemed to leave the plyboo alone but I think its a waste to use that stuff on carcasses.

Fabricators here shy away from anything MDF due to humidity and moisture but with all the glue in there that may be something less appetizing for those critters.... anybody have advice on this? Bamboo the way to go? With the price of Plyboo, I'll have to settle for a Coleman stove for my range and galvanized wash tub for my sink!

Get a legitimate termite company to treat and maintain your property yearly, then get the wood you want.

Agree with Ken.  Don't let those bastards dictate how you build your cabinets.  I wouldn't take that schit from them!

It may be interesting to note that termites in Hawaii were accidentally introduced and love the climate just as much as humans do.

you may want to check out a product called 'sevin' powder. I have had very good luck with it in the past

We have moisture proof MDF available here, that might be an option.

You should have much less trouble in your kitchen than in your garage.  I remember when I lived in HI those days when the termites took to the sky like a plague of locusts and the window screens would be crawling with them.

Just a thought, take a small sample of MFD and seal it on all 6 sides and put it in your bathroom near your shower.  I am betting it will do pretty well, even normal MDF is a lot more moisture resistant than particle board.
