The birth of a wooden house- incredible video

I skipped around, but will definitely go back and watch the entire video when I have more time.  In a word: Wow.

Cool video documenting the process. Better watched a 2x speed.  [wink]

When I was a kid, my dad built our house himself with very little help, a 3BR ranch with basement. From site prep and foundation to all of the finish carpentry, etc. Quite the accomplishment.

Of course, this takes that to a whole different level since the materials were sourced on-site and timbers were hand hewn, etc.

Ah, the good ol' days... I would enjoy having the opportunity to work on a project like this one. It's got to be so gratifying.

Thanks for sharing.

That is a work of art as much as a house...compare that to the McMansions built here.  In Europe houses are built for the ages.

Really nice work!!

Gotta have the motivation to do something like that.

I know I would be up for it big time but after a few days seeing slow progress ill loose interest and start thinking of ways to speed up the progress with tools!!! [scared]

Couldnt help but notice a screw bolt fixing when i watched it and then at the end it says no screws or nails used.... I thought im sure id seen a screw bolt so had to go back and find where id seen it

Nobody but JMB would have spotted that.

The tools on the website  are on another level. Quality  wise  and cost!
I'd like one of those axes.

Same here  [unsure]

But great video, very nice build!

Its nice and all but to me a house is just a well insulated dry box to live in, get it up in decent time and start living in it.

Who wouldn't want to live in a home like that?  And if the work  was  done by your self  you have such an attachment.
It would be difficult to  have to sell  such a cosy  abode.

I got their Bisaque ...
It is like a cordless jointer with lifetime batteries.

One can 'busta sweat' with it.
[tongue]

I've watched this twice now and could still easily watch it another time. We should have a "REALLY OUTSTANDING VIDEOS" thread and agree to only place videos there that get voted in!!

Very interesting, I see this is dedicated to Richard Proeneke. He is the man who lived in Alaska and recorded his building a cabin.  PBS showed it some years ago. Excellent show which also has an accompanying book.
