The DOMINO has evolved.

The spring-loaded pins tend to push the fence away from the workpiece, and this causes alignment and tracking errors, which is far more important.

I'm with Rick on this one.  Once in a while the pins push the fence away from the workpiece or one pin gets caught in a previously-bored mortise, and it causes the new mortise to be messed up.  It's user error, but the design makes the user error possible.  Also, the misaligned mortises are easily fixed by inserting a domino and sawing it flush, then boring a new mortise, but our time on earth is finite.  That said, I'm delighted with the Domino overall.

John

If memory serves me, Tezzer does not own both versions, but simply has used the new version, either from a friend or by trying it out from his dealer.

You shouldn?t just assume things. I use my old version 3-4 days a week in my workshop and the new version 2-3 days a week in this workshop and have been doing that for the last 6 months so I think im qualified to offer a reasonable opinion on both machines.

And I never use 4?rails (100mm) the two common sizes I use that have twin tenons are 95mm and 75mm rails, both ideal with the new accessory stop and old machine using 8mm Dominos, and both a real PITA with the new fence.

That is one great looking shop.

Geez, Tezzer, considering that is your Festool Dealer's workshop (Anthony from Ideal Tools), I don't believe I made any assumptions. I simply said if memory serves me, you didn't own the new one.

He is not my Festool dealer, all my Festools came from Prestige Power Tools in Mordialloc. But my future ones will come from him ;D

Has there been any additional changes to the Domino 500 since 2009? Is there any appreciable differences between the original and now that haven't been mentioned thus far in this thread?

Due to a change in servers/formatting on the FOG, at some point (I forget the cut off date) all of the images were lost and became inaccessible other than the thumbnails.

Are you planning to change Domino's systainer insert? Current insert has slots for 4 cutter heads. Will new insert hold 4 mm cutters too? Will spare part insert have decals for cutters?

Hey [member=57769]TylerC[/member] , this question was never answered. Is there any additional information on the DF 500 Systainer insert?

Thanks...

Just noticed this thread was from 2009....

Well, yeah, but again I reactivated the thread to find out if there have been any changes to the Domino since 2009. Thus far my question has gone unanswered.

It also brings to bear another question of whether the 500 might undergo revisions similar to the 700 that would make it more comfortable to use.

Since my question has yet to be answered, do I take it that the Domino has NOT evolved since 2009?

I don't have a definitive answer on this, but it appears that the answer is that there have not been updates to the insert nor are there immediate plans to update it. If I get a different answer, I'll let you know.

The Domino has not evolved, my friend, only the price...

Thank you for a definitive answer. I'm surprised that nobody from Festool directly responded. Price increase? Yes, and probably more than a couple of times.

I wish they did actually revise it to have a handle like the 700, which I find more comfortable using.
