This is my latest rocking chair. It is made of Tiger maple and Walnut. The back spindles are laminated walnut giving them more strength. The seat is coopered with 5 boards. The rockers are cut down a bit so the chair takes up less room in the house, but most of the shaping is done the way Maloof would have. The lumber came from crlumber about a week ago and I instantly knew what I was going to turn it into. I'm not much of a photographer so the pictures don't show the quality of the lumber but you can use your imagination. Most of the shaping was done with a ro125 or ro90. I also have a slew of auriou rasps that make quick work of maple. Finished with 5 coats of Maloof oil and 1 coat of wax.

I can't imagine where I'd start, but you make it sound simple and as if you didn't even have to think about it. That is a very special talent that you have there. Way to go!

Is this piece for you or for sale?

Outstanding!  That is one slick piece of furniture!  I really like the way you laminated alternating contrasting woods in the rockers.  Adds a little special touch!

Thank you!

I kinda glanced at your response and first thought you were saying something about your wife being for sale. Reminds me that I used to joke that "Everything I have is for sale, including my wife. Some days for less than others!"

[wink]

In response she told me that she thought about selling me, but wouldn't get enough to make it worth doing the paperwork. Ziiinnnnggg!

Looks great. A maloof chair has been on my bucket list for years.

Now I must ask.  How many times did you dry the
Legs off after the photo shoot?

Thanks for all the comments! Ive been thinking about doing some time lapse videos. i'm currently building a dresser i designed and i might enter it in the festool video contest if it turns out. Fdeloncker- if you are serious about building a rocker highlandwoodwerking has some basic plans that are very good and it comes with a video. the video is very informative but kinda boring.

Beautiful, elegant and quite stylish! [eek]

I want to ask about the black pins i see. Are they screws?  Did you choose to have them black?

I have never attempted such a daunting piece and I'm sure i'd be quite a while fixing tons of errors/starting over.  I salute you sir!
