The math just got complicated

I think everyone that is trying to compare toilet paper costs by weight, volume, or area are way off track.  You don't want a certain amount of paper, you want a completed task.  Once the TP cartels realize this, you're going to be paying monthly for hygiene and softness as a service.  Each roll of paper will be shrink-wrapped with a EULA seal.  There may be other options, like an office copier service, where you just pay a monthly bill based on number of uses.

I would start my own HSAS business, but the name "Hello Fresh" was already taken.

My favorite complaint about toilet paper value is that the rolls are now only 4" wide, down from 4 1/2" not that many years ago. How long will it be before they are made 3 1/2" wide, then 3" etc.?

Actually, 4" is adequate so that's not a real complaint. But a 7oz can of tuna is now 5oz., 32oz jars of Mayonnaise are now 30oz., etc.

I'm fairly confident the tube is much larger than it used to be, too. Less "Mega", More Roll.

While we're on this rant...the last three tubes of toothpaste I've had have had an air bubble that was roughly a third of the tube volume.

I get a kick out of the major mattress sellers who say, “We will beat any competitor…”.

But the major retailers all insist on re-named mattresses.  So their Excalibur model mattress is unique to their stores, but is identical to the Cloud model sold in compettitors’ stores.  So no comparison is possible.

When I was a child, a 10 cent Hershey bar varied slightly in weight at different times.  I guess I was a careful shopper even at 9 years of age.

I asked the store owner why it kept changing (from, as I recall 65 years later, 3.1 to 3.6 ounces).  He said, “So that they can always charge 10 cents.”  Which made sense to me even at that age.

But they were not pulling a switch like they are now.  The were making “marketplace adjustments”.  It seemed fair enough.  I only had a dime to spend.

Funnily, my first cup of coffee bought at a diner cost the same 10 cents.  (And a free re-fill.)
