The Trion is Dead?

I wonder if it might be a mistake. I believe the website is handled thru Germany and based on spellings in the past the website for one country may be used as a “template” for another, sometimes a change in one place filters to others where it isn’t accurate.

But I have never heard of a Festool machine being discontinued in Europe (PS 420) and not being discontinued in the USA
Perhaps they found another batch of 110 V components and they van make another small number of them, but my money is not on 'PS300 for world, PS420 for USA'.

What are the pros and cons of a Trion vs. the Carvex?
Trion;
-Heavier
-Hotter
-No light
+Cheaper
+No blade wobble
+Full-width base on miter cuts
+Miter cut option with standard base

Carvex;
-Blade wobble; needs DIY fix
-Pricier (or at least where I live)
-No miter cuts with standard base
+Lower weight
+Runs cooler
+Lights (+strobe!)
+Choice of miter angle with special base
+More accessories like that miter base with fine adjust, special material soles etc.

This is a very good summary of the differences. I have a Carvex and it has served me well.

Let's get rid of one negative - the absence of a light on the Trion ...

Epoxy on a metal tab. I used the base of a track fitting ...

I also prefer to omit the front shield for added visibility It does not create that much more dust.

Lee Valley sell very tiny battery powered lights (mini flashlights) ...

In use ...

I purchased this Trion used a few years ago. The original owner had replaced it with a Carvex. I wonder if he regrets this now?

When I bought my jigsaw, my Festool dealer talked me out of the Carvex. The Carvex was the most returned Festool machine they sold, and everyone who returned the Carvex bought the Trion.

They were also a Mafell dealer and he said the P1cc was the best. Unfortunately, they didn't have any in stock and didn't know when the next shipment would arrive.

Hmm yes, but still not as good as the Carvex light. Yours also adds bulk to the front, increasing distance of where you can cut vs the wall. Did you glue it onto the seam of the housing?
Also, no strobe ;)

When was that? With the original PS 400?

I was surprised by this when I got my Trion. I've done a LOT of dust collection mods, and I'm well aware of how non-intuitive airflow can be. I was STILL surprised by how little effect the shroud had.

When I purchased my P1cc in 2017, I performed a simple sawdust test with the Mafell, the Trion and the Carvex. Using the Trion with or without the shield yielded APPROXIMATELY the same results, while using the Carvex without the shield was a no-no.

Here's a photo of the Trion with the shield on (closed) and with the shield off (open).

Also, the alternate bases do not accept the dust extractor fitting.

Don't underestimate the weight difference. It is significant. It's not like holding one in each hand and "judging it".
You could pick up a Trion today and come back next week to pick up a Carvex, and be absolutely sure.
The Carvex, in the Systainer, is probably close to the Trion alone

2.7 kg for the PS 300
1.9 kg for the PS 420

I think..

I think because the Trion sucks on both sides, and the Carvex on the rear?

I bought the PS 300 EQ on 10 April 2019, so the Carvex I avoided would have been from the same time period.
That would have been PS 420 already. But both 400 and 420 were named "Carvex"

One to add:

Trion
+ likes to cut it straight, P1CC style, if one is to have ONLY a jigsaw /e.g. on a jobsite/, Trion or the P1CC it is

Carvex
- does not really like to go straight at it (i.e. like almost any good jigsaw on the market, excepting the Trion and P1CC) .. can be forced to go straight still, but not its "natural habitat"
