Thickness Planer

I hear you, Peter.  That's why I was looking at this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Jet-JJP-8BT-8-Inch-Jointer-Planer/dp/B001O0D6NS/ref=sr_1_2?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1384424294&sr=1-2&keywords=jet+planer+jointer

But, the reviews are iffy.

I simply have no room for that Rikon.
One can joint a board flat with just a thickness planer, but it's a PITA. You have to build a simple jig (board larger than the piece with a stop) ...place shims underneath the piece, fasten them, flush trim them, run thru the planer and then, disassemble the whole thing. Phew!

I'm going to keep looking...have some time...all of my wood is finally prepared for the next build.

I have a Makita 2012NB.  It works well.  There was some reason I bought it over the Dewalt.  I think it had to do with blade change or blade longevity or something.

Or because my Makita tools have been pretty decent.

You could mount the 735 on a mobile flip cart with a rigid spindle sander.

I have that sander and very much like the cart... got some sketchup drawings for that?

Thickness planer in ""Festool tools and accessories" and nobody moved or commented on this.. did I miss anything..??

Good luck finding your planer and with your kitchen project though!
