This could have been real bad.

Holy crap, Chris! Looks like it could have been much worse. Thank goodness you, Linda and the folks and their house are safe.

We have a really bad swath of storms that just passed through. Lots of tornado warnings in the area. Possible tornado touched down in Lebanon, where our office is. Reports of roofs ripped off of buildings in the area.

Fun night in Indy...  [scared]

Wow!
Thanks for posting the photo's Chris. I have never seen anything like that before.
The fire dept. here recommends that we have a extinguisher rate for A, B, and C fires which covers electrical fires.
I am glad I have one after seeing that.

I had similar experience with own home with large tree limb falling on line, pulling off riser from side of house. Fortunately it did not catch fire. Our area wants the mast through the roof or underground, I went underground even though it was a challenge with all the large rocks and trees and hillside to contend with.  Don't have to worry about limbs now. Yay

Wow!  [eek]  That looks like an accidental arc-welder where the juice hit that pipe!  If the home owner had been wearing rubber-soled shoes that weren't wet, that could be why he lucked out.  We always cut the power at the pole and gas at the meter when we get to a structure fire.

I guess I've always been fairly concious of fire safety, being a volunteer firefighter for 20+ years.  I have fire extinguishers in my house, shop, office and even the kitchen of my rental house.

Tim, I work in a lot of homes. I very seldom see a fire extinguisher of any kind.
The same can be said for many woodworking shops I have been in.

I wonder if OSHA ever visited those shops whether they would get fined for that...although after reading Chris Hughes' story on the CT 26 catching fire I am going to have a fire extinguisher a little more accessible and take one on site.

I keep one in the truck all the time cause you never know.......  Technically one should keep it physically/visibly on the actual jobsite.    I admit mine never sees the jobsite, but if im torching or welding it definitely comes out with me.
