I think I have to thank A.I. for my google search.

I asked if any colorants can affect the physical properties of injection molded components. The short answer is “Yes”.

Of course Festool is locked in on the color of choice for the latches.

Much written, but no specific colors mentioned.

In the past, I had run into dimensional issues when different colorants were used. Some caused more shrinkage as the molded parts cooled.

In any case, perhaps the color choice made the difference. Or perhaps a lower grade of resin was chosen for the latches. High impact styrene is cheaper than ABS. Perhaps the molder took it upon its own to make a change.
