Those empty tops of Systainers

I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but, besides an occasional piece of closed cell foam padding, the tops of systainers appear to have a bit of empty space once you remove the colorful piece of cardboard. In the case of the C12, there should be something we can do to pack that space with drill bits and such. Any ideas?

I think a little double stick tape, and some conveniently available do-dads will do the trick, but I haven't identified those do-dads yet.

That would have to be some good double stick tape......

Since the Festool labels don't even stick to the Systainers :-[

Could the black plastic cover plate supplied with the SYS 1 UNI Item # 487194 be used for that purpose?  You would have to make a latch to hold that cover plate tight against the underside of the top of the Systainer.  I have a Sys 1 UNI and store some of my L-shaped Festool clamps between that black plastic plate and the top of the Systainer.  The 300mm clamps fit neatly there.  Note that other inserts are available separately from Festool, including those intended for storage of drill bits.

It bugs me too, especially in the case of the Sortainers. It looks like there is almost 2" of dead space in the tops of Sortainers and has been a real mental roadblock helping to keep me from buying one.

As well as the Tanos accessories that Seth mentions, Festool themselves produce a "Tool cover" which goes by the name of "WZD SYS 1-4" and has Order No 491643:

I'm afraid that it doesn't seem to be available in the USA, but members in other regions might be interested. Street price in the UK seems to be about 14.90 plus GBP.

There's a German eBay seller who is selling them for about 12 GBP, and says he can ship worldwide, so that might be an option for those in the USA.

Hmmm, NAINA!  Must be waiting for UL (Under Lid) approval.  ::)

I used the little screw holes there to put up rare earth magnet cups, I use magnets to hold up a collection of Japanese woodblock postcards (laminated, natch) and my 6" ruler. Makes the inside home, since my home has been in the process of changing every few months since April. Be careful the screws aren't too long, so they won't come through the topside.
