Thoughts on the DTS 400?

I'm curious what people think of the DTS 400. I picked one up specifically because Sedge mentioned it has an angled pad edge so it's perfect for sanding right up to the edge of something.

However when I sanded up to the edge the sandpaper left a groove abraded into the wood that's perpendicular to the surface being sanded. Festool Granat paper. No edge protector (It was specifically pointed out in the video that it wasn't needed for this). I gently worked the sander up to the edge, no extra pressure against it. I just let it kind of "rest" against the edge as it sanded.

My RTS 400 doesn't leave this groove when I sand up to the edge without the protector.

The DTS does the same great job on a flat surface, and for 90* or lower angle corners it fits where the RTS won't. So it obviously has it's uses. I'm wondering if the groove is user error? Or is the all knowing Sedge wrong on this?

I'm debating if I want to keep this or take advantage of the 30 day thing for the first time. I have a whole pile of sanders; don't really need to keep it if it's not going to do what I want it to.

Umm, I'm thinking user error but what do I know. I have a dts 400 and use it in conjunction with the 125 or 150 when sanding stairs or corner areas. I haven't had your problem. Did have another problem at first.
When I first got the dts it took a bit of practice to match up the dts corner sanding with the 125 or 150 sanding so the inner corners or edges didn't look 'off a bit'.
Someone will probably have more relevant info than me so be patient.

In theory that shouldn't be the case because both the DTS & RTS are orbital sanders, meaning the means & method for removing material from a surface is the same on both machines.

I'm wondering if the issue may be a slightly higher loading level because of the reduced area of the tip of the DTS. Just my  [2cents]

Sandpaper is always slightly bigger than the hook and loop sole of the sander. The overhang can fold and sand the perpendicular surface. You might want to check paper placement and have the overhang in the rear instead of on the tip.

RTS sole is also slightly different geometry on the edge if I remember right. It has a foam 'bumper' without hook and loop around the edges. The DTS sole is hook& loop al the way to the edge. The edge is also sharper. Meaning DTS sole will always hit in the level of overhang sandpaper while RTS sole will hit over entire thickness of sole.

And yes; lots of people put too much pressure on the front of 100*150 delta and 93V sanders. But regardless, earlier mentioned item still applies.
