Thoughts on the Festool 497658 Systainer SYS-HWZ T-Loc

I've been eyeing this for a some time. At present I'm risking a hernia lugging around an overloaded Veto Pro Pac XXL. What seemed like a good idea years ago has developed into an enabler. The "I might need that tool once in a blue moon" syndrome has resulted in what feels like a 60lb load. I figure this might force me to prioritize my tools to the most used, most needed and save my back, arms, knees etc….

Hello gstuartw,
It looks great, but I found it a pain to use. Can't fit enough in it, the holes/slots were never quite the right size, and taking the whole insert out to get to a tool at the bottom was annoying.
I've recently changed to a closed top Veto bag, and absolutely love it - much more user friendly, in my opinion. I've never been a fan of bags, and like to keep most of my tools in systainers, except for hand tools.
Lincoln.

I'm using a Veto-Pro Tech XL and wish it had wheels on the bottom sometimes.  That darn thing is hugely heavy with the basics and test equipment.

Quite a few FOG members have created their own SYS HWZ type organizers so you might want to consider that as an option.

I had the Festool organizer but found it didn't work for me.

I have the insert and it's not the best. I made my own and got creative, much much better to make your own suited to your needs

In my on going search for setup and organization ease, I was looking at this Festool Systainer SYS-HWZ, the have they wrong photograph on the site I use describing this as the Systainer MFT but showing this SYS-HWZ, I like the idea, and I'm buying two Systainer 4 T Locs where I will use one of them to hold a similiar self made insert.. I agree that you have to make the insert to match the tools and not the reverse.. I was thinking it could be interesting to make an insert that could hang off a self made work center...

I like that the size is a SYS 4 as that seems to have a nice balance between capacity, weight, and having a set that's easy to find your way around things , The ones shown seem somewhat crowded imo..

Maybe Festool should offer an insert for this but without any holes drilled in it just a few dividers and a so on...Just the general shape needs to be there you configure it yourself..

I don't know about strength and durability issues, but it seems like this might be a great candidate for 3-D printing?

I think this would be more a thing of a CNC cut sheet of plastic than printing.

I would love it if Festool / Tanos would offer a fitted plate (plastic). It would be easy to take a few of them and make something like the tool carrier with threaded standoffs, or a second layer in a sysiV where you have something that takes up a bit more than an III but leaves lots of room.... that tray you could make could be used for consumables or whatever.

Here is Mine I have sourced few tools ( like folding hack saw, hammer, 300mm digital Stabile spirit level) from Germany and found identical glue bottle in B&Q (national hardware store in UK)

I had to ever so slightly increase the size of two holes for my chisels, as my Stanley Fat Max chisels were preventing from a lid being closed. Two cherries chisels would be ideal for that but i do not like how they have no crisp line on the bevel edge and back faces, plus it is an extra expense for something I already had and I couldn't strike them with a hammer like i can with my Stanley.

I tend to keep a 19pc Bosch boxed set of drill bits on the bottom of the insert and few less used small tools in the little drawer box.

It works perfectly for me and I have no complaint about it other than it is heavy to carry due to huge range of tools inside.

Regards

Great setup there. I'm considering doing the same setup so that was a help.. I too will source or use my own existing tools...
