TI 15 impact woes

Also the impact mode doesn't seem to have much of an impact in opening jammed bolts - tried to remove a pedal from a bike and after trying the the hex wrenches I own and not succeeding I slapped a hex bit into the Centrotec adapter of the Ti15 and tried to pry it loose with the impact mode. Failed. Eventually got it open with an 30cm extension pipe to a hex wrench to give me enough torque to get it moving.

Though I'd love to bash the Ti15 at every opportunity, I don't think the Ti15 is to blame here. Those bolts on bicycles can become very tight, a common problem. I had to replace the chain rings from my bike a while ago, and I nor the bicycle repairman could get them loose, whatever we tried. I had to grind them away. A hand wrench with a long handle will give you more torque than most impact drivers can.

On bicycles it is always advised to grease up a bolt's thread before fastening, to make sure you can get them out again later.

In the past couple of months, I have driven probably 4000 fasteners with the TI, including a pretty good pile of 10" Timberlocks. No problems what so ever. That and a drill set up for predrilling/counterboring/countersinking is a very efficient combo.

I'm still loving my TI too. I drove a bunch of 4" lags without predrilling, no problems whatsoever

I'm holding out for an 18 volt TI. That way I can maintain my current 'no cordless Festool' status. And then - even after they announce it - I can complain about it being NAINA!

so..  the T-Impact is selectable between drill and impact?
I simply can't WAIT until these are available here!  I suspect the impact will be the same as everywhere else in the world,  just a different charger...  am I correct?

I wasn't aware that it was selectable (or SUPPOSED to be...) between drill/impact.  that's just brilliant!

what's the deal with the T18's you guys are talking about here?

We have them in the USA, I bought one and sent it back after two weeks. Had similar clumsy operation as stated before me. I have the new brush-less Milwaukee m18. It is much nicer even though it does not switch from driver to impact. It has three impact modes almost perfect for any situation. Compared to the cxs and the c12/c15 LIon the TI15 is a big let down. The C series are amazing, no other drill company can compare. Not crazy about any of the "T" series drills. I love Festool and expect more from them then that garbage drill. Don't take it as gospel just from me. I sent back a kapex so you may think I'm crazy like everyone else does. If you really want to try it out you can buy it below. Who knows maybe you will like it?

Well festool have stopped selling the impact Ti in the UK.

  I have really given the impact drill a hard time and always thought it was justified because I have always believed its a crap drill.

I rest my case.

I was going to pick up a T18 Set and Ti15 body only before they kill it off, but whats the crack with the batteries if I go that route? Can't use the 18v in the impact driver can you? And does the T18 fit in the twin box to hold both?

Yes it will!
The TI15 Basic version comes with a SYS 3 systainer which can hold either the T+TI or C+TI.

No, you can't use the 18v batteries in the Ti15.  For a set, you are better off with the T15.

Hello there,

I see many of you with "problems" with the impact driver of Festool . I don't have one, but was looking to buy one so I tried to find some info on the festool.nl website. I was very surprised not to see the impact there anymore. So I went to the German version, the .com version and even the .co.uk version. NO IMPACT driver. Coincidence?

I still see it on the festoolUSA website, but there it still says NEW. Will here in Europe, we have already a lot of new drills on the market of festool, and the impact was launched in 2011, if I'm correct.

Is there anybody who knows if the impact driver is OUT of the program?

The impact here in North America is now discontinued.  I can't tell you about the rest of the world.

Just a clarification.... my T18 is not selectable between drill and impact. It is selectable between drill and driver. My guess is that no T18 can be an impact driver.

My TI15 , with adaptor, can act as a drill. Without the adaptor, it is an impact driver and a darn good one. I've driven dozens of 1/4" 3" lag bolts into predrilled Ipe (very hard wood). I have never used the TI15 as a drill. I've got a mess of dedicated drills and don't want to waste the time converting the TI15 into a drill.
