I posted on here about a month ago how I had been phoned by Festool Germany and asked many questions about the TS55 and the guy said he was coming over and could he visit me, well he turned up today.

About 3.45 he turned up spent an hour nearly showing me lots of prototypes with new and old ideas and what did I get for my time  nothing [mad] [mad] [mad] bloody tight gits I thought I might get at least a Festool tshirt or something, as he left he said I might have a pen if you want it  [laughing] [laughing] [laughing].

Funny enough I spoke to an electrician today and he had a visit from another German company FLUKE who make testers, they paid him ?100 for his time and he is meeting with them again up in central London and getting paid again thats how it should be done Festool. [mad]

I dont expect to be payed but I would expect to be given some sort of thank you for my valuable market research.

I mentioned the FOG to him he had never heard of it  [laughing]

I suppose I will just have to sell the ideas I saw today to Makita or Dewalt then  [laughing] [laughing] [laughing] [laughing] [laughing] [laughing] [laughing]

It seems to be the same old story nowadays.  I remember a few years ago at Christmas time the reps used to give loads of goodies but nowadays you are lucky to get a calender.  I pen also & you are doing well.  I used to get some sort of free bee with every Festool i purchased but that seems to have stopped also.  In fact today i was speaking to them to order a new bandsaw & told them my grumble about no goodies any more.  He said he would have a rumage & get me summit.

Like you say, loyalty & our time should be rewarded.

Woodguy.

P.S - might as well tell us about all the new stuff then  ;)

This wasnt a rep though this was one of their designers who had come over from Germany.

That was in the good old days, when 'corporate gifts' were tax deductable. Companies used to spend a fortune on them, but the tax loophole was closed a few years ago. Now they can't claim them back, they see gifts/freebies purely as an unnecessary expense.

I don't think that's likely.... [eek]

He showed me quiet a few things really some good ideas, some obviously already on other saws. He did mention that it could be 2 years before anything would come out anyway so dont get too excited

Evening

That`s  poor customer service. Its indicative of Festool in some ways, you can not get any discounts on machines for being a loyal customer and their customer service is , thank god for good dealer who value our custom. They don't even have the tool points system in this country! Then when they want our help, nothing is forthcoming. I would have thought it was company pratice to come armed with a goody bag, especially as they are showing you new prototypes. After all, bet they wanted your confidentiality.
Festool Germany seem to have blinkers on when it comes to Festool related web sites. Strange that as I bet the knowledge on here sells more of their tools than we could ever know. Think the rest of the world could learn a few things from Festool USA.

I agree with this totally, John. It still bemuses me that there are no UK dealers or Festool UK employees on here at all, to my knowledge. Insanity.

Funny enough I never had to sign anything I thought they might ask me to keep quiet but they didnt to be honest most of the ideas were already on other saws anyway

Mac,

I think there might be , but they don't want to make themselves known . Can you imagine what flack they would get.

John

Grrr, let me at them  ;)

Joiner, i think that means you are about to share the ideas with us  [big grin]

I wish I had my spy camera with me today could have filmed it all  [big grin] [laughing] [laughing]

Just for the record Fluke is an American company. John Fluke was a friend and roommate of David Packard (of HP fame).

It'd be nice if they made more of a presence for themselves, in the way that Bob, Tom, Sean and others on the far side of the pond have done for themselves. Still, maybe in the future this will happen.

Cheers,
Rick

Because I chose to answer the question privately rather than interrupt the thread.  I sent you a PM explaining why but here's the answer:  Members agree to abide by certain guidelines for the forum.  Those guidelines include not using bad language or typing around our word filter which is intended to prevent bad language by misspelling a word.  My apologies to this thread being interrupted.  In the future, members can PM or email myself or a moderator if you have questions regarding forum moderation or the forum rules.
