Hi folx
Does any of you know a good book on the basics of timber-framing,
preferably with many illustrations and explanations?
Thanx in advance: a.

Yep, goes pretty deep into the history of it all and taught me enough to knock together an oak porch - although apparently it looks like a bus shelter to [member=9122]CrazyLarry[/member]

I like to leave the book around so the people noticing it will realise I built the thing that didn't fall down and kill them when they rang the doorbell. Yet.

One day the doorbell will electrocute someone and I'll feel bad about that, but the book can't be blamed for that.

Build a Classic Timber-Framed House by Jack A Sobon

Building The Timber Frame House by Tedd Benson

A Timber Framers Workshop by Steve Chappell

All great books

The Timber-Frame Home by Benson is a great book on showing how to integrate wiring, foundations, stress skins, and modern techniques to building timber frames, which is nice if you're building a home which needs things like plumbing and so on.

Thanks for supplying the titles, Jay. A couple of folks are recommending Benson/Sobon.
Ta!

Could we title that book, "Ran them to ground 'a short story' "?

It's a very elegant well made bus shelter (with seating) :)

..and well grounded, if i understand Wuffles. Gotta be an electrifying experience, sitting there..
