hi all,

in my first post i mentioned, that i was about to build an outhouse/workshop...

to be more precise my girlfriend designed a building she wanted in the garden , octagonal in design but center part of shape is more elongated... elongated because i have crept the measurements up behind her back to make a nice size workshop..
i was originally going to do this out of oak, on a brick base and red tiled roof... but oak is super expensive in this part of the world-this part being England- so i am going with 6x6 posts on a 6x3 sill and 6x3 wal plate...

are there any good websites you know of that show a good jointing system for the corners, where the post meets the sill, i was thinking on half lapping the base plate and tennoning the post to it..
sounds good in principle but would like to do a bit more research on it..

thanks in advance for any info..
also used my festools for first time this week.... WOW  ;D wht else can one say...

I was fitting a kitchen and there was a gap issue- client had measured room with, i guess, 8 inches missing from tape. i had to do a bit of thinking on my feet, but used the saw to make a wine rack, I was amazed at the quality of cut.
I have pictures and wondering if i can upload on here...

anyhow hi from London

I hope I am not violating any TOA's....use a search engine and type in timber framers guild.  They have links and a forum all about timber framing.  The forum has a UK section which may allow you to take advantage of experienced resources in your own backyard.
