Time for a new Roof (and skylights). Ugh

As an aside, my front door is protected by about an 8 foot deep overhang. As a result the doorway is very dark and uninviting.

When it comes time for a new roof, I intend to have a skylight or solar tube direct light right on the door. I think it will significantly improve the entrance.

My roof (over a ranch house) is 25’ x 80’, or approximately 2,000 square feet. Any formulas to estimate the cost of a shingle roof?

Pray for a hail storm - little over a year ago our area had a huge hail storm an almost all of the houses in my area had insurance companies install replacement roofs. My roof was 8 years old at the time.

Pray for a hail storm - little over a year ago our area had a huge hail storm an almost all of the houses in my area had insurance companies install replacement roofs. My roof was 8 years old at the time.

My roof is about 20 years old on a 30 year rated roof. So they likely will only pay for 2/3 of the cost of a new roof. Of course one of my cars sits on my driveway, and a hail storm will total a vehicle. The cost to repair the roof, hood, trunk, front and rear fenders for hundreds of little hail dimples will be enough to cause the iinsurance company to total the car. So, I will not be praying for a hail storm.

A number of years ago, a car dealer bought brand new, but hail damaged cars and was selling them at half price with a new car guarantee. All of them needed extensive body work to look as new as they were.


My spell checker changed “front” to “justice”; “insurance” to “indignant”, “brand new” to “means more”. There were a couple more, but I was not making note of them in the beginning. The changes were all for properly spelled words. I can’t figure this out.
