Tom McLaughlin uploaded a video of him taking a tour of the Woodpeckers Headquarters and Factory with Richard Hummel, the founder and CEO of Woodpeckers.  I really enjoyed the tour and the behind the scenes look at how the tools are made.  There actual video begins at the 3:44 mark:

An absolutely excellent video...thanks for the post.  [not worthy] [not worthy]

I've talked with Richard a few times on technical issues and can substantiate he is a very quick study...nothing needs to be repeated a second time...he just gets it.  [big grin]

Observation 1. For general low tech, everyday woodworking equipment they use a lot of Powermatic & Jet gear.

Observation 2. A very vertically integrated manufacturing process. More like the Swiss watch making industry, everything is in-house.

Observation 3. If you can produce your own nitrogen, you can certainly anodize your own aluminum. So my guess is Richard very smartly, doesn't want anything to do with the chemical problems and concomitant EPA issues, let's leave that for someone else.  [smile]

Observation 4. It would have been nice for Richard to be interviewed by a technically more savvy person to push back on some statements which may have lead to a more technical conversation or a deeper dive.

A just plain excellent video and some thought should be given for Woodpeckers to purchase the video rights to use this for marketing purposes. That would stop most of the naysayers out there in their tracks.

Observation 5. I wonder if Banggood produces their own nitrogen?  [scratch chin] [scratch chin]

We keep talking about it and looking at it, but there's a whole lot of voodoo involved in getting things right, and no one here believes too much in voodoo. You're right about the EPA issues. The people we use are all grandfathered in on some of the dicier aspects. Setting up an all new production line is a different matter.

Edited to Add: Glad my shop was fairly clean and had some "work product" when they went through. I didn't know that was going to happen.

For those bitching about their pricing the video explains why the stuff they sell is not cheap. What an incredible setup that is far beyond what I had envisioned.
